It was an interesting read. While I have difficulty with the narrative style (jumping through time and space), I was able to relax a little and find some of it an intriguing mode of storytelling. For me it was as if the author was handing me pieces to a jigsaw puzzle one-by-one. Some of the fit together nicely with the ones I already had. Others, I could only look at, and set aside to use later. Also, it took until the last chapter to explain the title. Kind of annoying--it wasn't a mystery. But the story of being an alien and a "monster" yourself and an exposition on being outsider in a new culture was interesting. A treatise on love--what love is, how we love, why we love and most importantly, what we sacrifice for love was very interesting.

Definitely not a happy uplifting book but one that deals with reality. I admit my ignorance on quite a bit of this history and feel this book enlightened me. I found it difficult in the beginning but it picked up as I went.

Very funny and inventive picture book. I love the inquisitive nature of the little girl and the imagination of the little boy. His creative answers to the question of "how does a ____ work?" were awesome. I learned a lot about airplanes, steamrollers and trains. I had no idea that an octopus twisted a whale to power a freighter. I especially love how the little girl turns the tables and shows the boy how a bicycle works at the end. Very good read.
