The path of the relationship, which should have been the most satisfying, was a bit meandering (not wire-taut with tension), and I still can't believe that the plot took up the length of an entire novel. I still like Anna, though.

Jake Rigby jakemrigby5eec — "Marley and Me" is a story about a family who is just getting started and gets a puppy. They go through the everyday struggles of taking care of the puppy and trying to manage their day to day life. As Jennifer works really hard to find a job in Florida where they live, John already has a job at the local newspaper. As they take life day by day Marley, their dog gives them struggles each and every day on something off the wall. As Jennifer tries to get John to get rid of Marley, he just can not do it, Marley is his best friend when he just needs alone time. As their family begins to grow Jennifer gets more fed up with Marleys crazy ways and makes John take her to one of his friends houses. As John is dropping Marley off he realizes how important he is to him and how he really needs him. As the family finally begins to calm down John is offered a new job. John and Jennifer have three children and of course Marley is back with them. As the family moves to a new town and everything changes so does Marley and the family is worried about him and how he acts. As Marley just seems to be getting older John takes him to the vet and finds out how much Marley really means to the family and how important the little things in life are. As Marley gets worse the family takes the time to talk about all the good times they had with Marley. Marley and Me is a good story and tells the true life lessons you learn when you have a dog in your life.

Fernanda Kühl fernandakuhl — Courageous and compassionate...I found the writing lyrical--sometimes halting, often harrowing, and always haunting. Not an easy read or subject, but incest is an unfortunate fact of life; anyone who can survive and give voice to their experience with the measure of honesty and skill Sue William Silverman has in this book garners my sincere admiration, and my belief is that more open discussion of this subject in our culture can only have a positive effect, however uncomfortable it may be at times. Silverman came from a wealthy background where her basic needs were more than met, and perhaps that is why she was able to be present for her parents at the end of their lives, but I can assume with some certainty that every moment she was present for them exacted its own toll on her--whether the choice as right or wrong, it was HERS and seemed to aid her in her own healing. One of the book's strengths, in my opinion, is the way that it shows just how twisted a crime incest is...not only the crime itself, but how deeply it twists its victims and survivors and their lives. Her insight into her parents' experiences also illustrates that incest does not happen in a vacuum.
