Life of the White Ant, Maurice Maeterlinck

I really appreciated the storyline: it was exciting and I wasn't able to find the real killer of Dante until the end. I think it's a really good book even if it's not well structured. The investigation isn't well defined and the author focused on the search of the "Arch" and on Bernard. Probably while I was reading I'm focused on the search of the Arch too, that's why I didn't understand who the killer was. Anyway the author did a really good work about the interpretation of the "Divina Commedia". I really appreciated the descriptions of Firenze and Bologna: I read a lot about italian issues in 1300 and I found the picture of these cities very realistic. So, the book flows smoothly and I loved the storyline but in the next book I hope the author will take care of all the characters equally!

Ponderous, but enlightening in depicting the hierarchy that developed amongst the Blue Bloods in the 40's and 50's.

Stark's second Parker novel, and it really felt like a filler story between the first and the next one. I was disappointed by the lack of The Outfit in this, and the tale seemed unnecessary at times. But I am excited for the next one, as it seems by the title that he will go up against them again! On the positive, I really liked the Stubbs character in this one, all punch drunk and dopey. The anti-Parker!

The sequel to "My Name is Asher Lev," this story is not as strong as the original. Potok seems to stall a bit when reusing characters that he has already used so powerfully in another story that did not really require a sequel. Still, I would recommend it because as a stand-alone book, it is still a good read and the character is still interesting. I just wouldn't say it's as inentive or moving as "My Name is Asher Lev."

Not too impressed. This author reminds me of Fast talkers who can't stay on the subject. I'll finish the book but I don't think I'll read any others written by her

Intelligent, enlightening. Learned the significance of some common or well-known names and areas, learned more about the area I've lived in for most of my life.

I tried, but I couldn't get into this one. Supposedly a classic adventure tale, but maybe something was lost in translation from the original French. Not worth me struggling through it, so I'm moving on to something else after about 60 pages in.

This little known, anonymously-written literature text has amazing stories and thought-provoking parables that have transcended time and space. Growing up, I read this book over and over again (some stories more than others) and can attest to the power of it. Especially when defending one's self. For example, I definitely recommend this book for anyone who finds themselves constantly defending their political views against self-identified "experts" on this grand nuance of a text.

I feel horrible giving this only two stars, because it's so popular. My desire to conform to public opinion is almost enough to make me give it more, but I can't force myself to do it. The rating of two stars is: "It was OK." And honestly, that's all it was for me. I've read it almost three times, hoping each time that I'll like it better, but I don't. Maybe the fourth time will be the charm. Sorry C.S. Lewis!
