дарья нечаева _aria1 — The kids loved this book - we read it together as a family. They would beg me to read more every time we got to the end of a chapter. I would recommend this, especially as a read-aloud family book.

langooor
Divya Gunashekar langooor — The sequel to "My Name is Asher Lev," this story is not as strong as the original. Potok seems to stall a bit when reusing characters that he has already used so powerfully in another story that did not really require a sequel. Still, I would recommend it because as a stand-alone book, it is still a good read and the character is still interesting. I just wouldn't say it's as inentive or moving as "My Name is Asher Lev."

Kaitlin Tai _aitlin_ — ** spoiler alert ** love love loved this book! It was a really nice change from the stuff i've been reading lately :) So, Daire Santos grew up with her mother Jennika and when she turns 16, the visions of glowing people and ravens that she's had her whole life intensify and she freaks out - the doctors think she's going insane and suggest that she get psychotic treatment and stuff. But Daire's grandmother, Paloma - her dead father, Django's mom - calls and says she may be able to help Daire. Jennika agrees to send Daire to stay with her for a while, and Daire herself is reluctant to go but she doesn't really get much of a choice on the matter. Daire goes to a small town called Enchantment and when she first meets her grandmother, she freaks, thinking, Paloma is crazy and she tries to run away but doesn't make it and gets hit by a car instead when a vision hits her. So Daire learns that she's a Soul Seeker, she discovers her spirit animal guide, who is Raven and she goes on her vision quest and Paloma teaches her all this stuff and she comes to accept it. She also learns that the enemies of the Soul Seekers are the Coyotes - the Richter family in town. And Daire has this reoccurring dream, where she meets this gorgeous boy and things get all steamy with them and then his evil twin brother comes and kills him - Cade Richter is the evil twin, and Dace Richter is the good twin. (i found it cool how both their names are spelt with the same letters) and how Leandro, their father, got Chepi, their mother, pregnant because he misused the power of the Day of the Dead and altered her perception and seduced her and Leandro wanted a black-hearted son, but instead, he got twins - Cade, whom he took in, and Dace, who Chepi raised. The Richters controlled a lot of the town and people were under their spell and so Paloma tells Daire that she needs to find out what the Richters are up to and put a stop to it. And to do that, Daire goes to the Rabbit Hole, the Richters' club, where she merges her energy with a cockroach, and finds the portal - or vortex - and Cade goes in and she follows him and discovers that he's raising his dead ancestors by feeding them human souls (these white, glowing orbs) to reanimate them or whatever - and he wants to control the Middleworld, Upperworld and Lowerworld. So in the meantime, she enrolls in school, makes a friend, Sochee (idk how to spell her name). so when Paloma falls ill, Daire ventures into the Lowerworld i think to seek help from Raven, her spirit guide, for what to do for her grandma and finds Dace there too. They kiss!!! OMG :D they're so cute! anyway, they find Wolf, Paloma's spirit guide in bad health and set out to retrieve her soul. And in the meantime, Jennika is back and she wants to take Daire back to L.A. with her as soon as Paloma gets better. So Daire goes into Cade's portal and finds out that he stole Paloma's soul and he feeds it to his ancestors and she chases the monsterous thing down and beats it up but Dace stops her from killing it. They travel to the lowest level of the netherworld i think, to the Bone Keeper, who they bargain with and she lets all the captured souls go free, including Paloma's. and she mentions how Dace is the Echo. So they give back Paloma her soul and she gets better :D and Dace's mom, Chepi, doesn't take well to the idea of Dace having a girlfriend - him and Daire are so adorable! :D and Cade comes back, reminding her that he's the evil twin ,that she could still join him and they could work together :O that asshole and he mentions that Dace is the Echo too!! I'm so excited for the next book, called "Echo" and i think it's cool how the title of the next book is incorporated into "Fated" - so maybe the book could be about Dace as the Echo and them discovering what that means :D looking forward to it! Plus, the whole spirit guides and vision quest stuff in the story reminded me of Aboriginal culture - cuz i rmr researching some it before and it mentions animal spirit guides and quests, which is cool :D

Serina Kawata _erina_ — Eve of Samhain by Lisa Sanchez was an easy, yet interesting and fun read. It depicts the story of Ryann, a hard-working, sassy, and determined young woman, and her unusual encounter with Quinn, a Gancanagh - which, by theway, is a mythological faerie in Irish lore that possesses the blessing or the curse (whichever way you look at it) to seduce women just by touching them. The catch is, the women he touches inevitably die from their obsession. See what I mean by curse? Quinn meets Ryann at the club in which she works, riling her up with his crude language and cocky attitude. Of all the women he's met in his 500+ years, not one has resisted him, much less given him a snappy attitude, until Ryann. Needless to say, his interest is piqued by this anomaly, and he and Ryann develop a friendship and deep caring for each other from a distance. They can never touch lest Ryann succumb to the curse. In addition to that major inconvenience, there is another catch to the curse that leaves Ryann scrambling to save Quinn before Samhain. A lot of readers seemed to have a problem with Quinn's cockiness, but I had some minor issues with the heroine of this novel. Ryann was a bit repetitive with her gushing about her attraction to Quinn - 'Ok, we get the point'... She was also more than a tad blubbery and childish, with her desperate need for Quinn to tell her how he felt despite the volumes his actions spoke. Her insecurities were a mild annoyance, what with her 'ass the size of Texas' and her inability to understand her worth to Quinn. However, despite her immature faults, Ryann is still a likeable character, and I will give her credit for her independence, stubbornness, and quick wit. Quinn, on the other hand, was a riot. You'd think after 500 years, the man might have matured, but he holds on to his youthful and perverse outlook on women and life in general. The lingo is hilarious, and I found my eyes bulging out of my sockets on more than one occasion. His identity was the most interesting to me - an ancient Irish faerie - and the history was pretty colorful, especially when Voodoo Martha and her generational witchiness came in to play, revealing firsthand glimpses into Quinn's mythological past. The storyline is predictable, but it covers all the bases, leaving the reader satisfied with the outcome of the book. The writing within the pages was fresh and made me laugh out loud frequently. Some people found the language and wit offensive, but, seriously, all you need is the tiniest sense of humor to get a kick out of the dialogue and point-of-view of the audacious Ryann. I would categorize this book into the 'fantasy romance' section of my personal library. It's funny and crude, yet passionate with grave undertones that give it a colorful texture of emotions and plights, never leaving the reader with that undesirable feeling of monotony. I would definitely recommend if you are looking for a leisurely read and (hehe) aren't easily offended. Happy Reading Everyone :)

Matheus Cardozo _atheus_ardozo — An easy, informative read. Great historical info about various spirits and some fun-to-know facts are included. Great tasting notes after each chapter. At the risk of sounding silly, I really wish this book had some pictures to break up the solid text a little bit. Some color pics of liquor bottles of various types would be a good addition for reference, and some mixed drink photos with the included recipes would be welcome as well.

Luka 2project 2_ject — This 'childrens' book is one that I've read to my son at story/bed time on numerous occasions, and every time I finish I think "I have to do some research on this author/book as the simple story has such a deep message underneath". So instead of researching, I saw it on here and reviewed...I do think it's a great story to discuss with children in regards to the life lessons that may (or may not) be applied to the "boy" character and the tree as well. Now going to actually research it.
