This book review can also be found at http://scorchingbookreviews.blogspot.com I read this book after constantly seeing this authors name crop up on here in relation to good Cowboy Romance's. After reading a few of her short stories (over at allromanceebooks.com), I quickly realised that I liked her style of writing and this could be a very good choice. Unridden is book 1 of the Studs and Spurs Trilogy, which centres around the rodeo circuit. Jenna Block is a struggling romance author who gets directed by her publisher towards the cowboy romance genre. After realising that a Bull Riding Championship is being held in the same town as a Romance Writers Conference, Jenna decides to kill two birds with stone and get some first hand experience from some real life cowboys. Coming across Slade and Mustang, two rodeo riders with a penchant for sharing everything from a trailer to women, Jenna gets more than she bargains for in this incredibly hot yet sweet story. This book was fabulous. As soon as I met the character Mustang (named after the car because of the size of his junk!) I knew I was going to love this story. Slade and Mustang are typical bull riders; they live, breathe and sleep riding. Unlike Mustang, Slade is getting bored of the lifestyle that comes with it. The nights in the trailers and the endless supply of buckle-bunnies is getting old (in the first sex scene between the boys and Jenna the first thought that flashed through my head was "I hope they washed the sheets!) When he meets Jenna, she is the first woman who has given him pause for thought in months....unfortunately for Slade it looks like she is interested in them as a package deal! After being told by her publisher (and Mustang when he reads a draft of the book!) that her sex scenes were getting boring, Jenna decides that what she needs to spice up her writing is some good experience, which Mustang is more than happy to help with! One thing I can say about this writer is that she definitely doesn't suffer from the same lack luster sex scenes problem as her leading lady. The scenes were absolutely SMOKING! This book doesn't feature a true menage but Slade and Mustang like to share and Jenna is more than game to let them seduce her into some hot threesome action. The secenes are absolutely scorching and there is just the right amount of detail mixed with emotion to keep it from being sleazy and keep me happy. The later sex scenes between the three, although still fabulous, were a little harder to read as we, as the readers, have watched Slade's feelings for Jenna develop and truly feel his discomfort as he watches her with his best friend. I think that if Mustang hadn't been such a likeable character, and Slade such a stubborn prat at points, they could have been horrible to read but, as they were, they were perfect to steam you up, whilst proving how much Slade's feelings were changing. The sex scenes between Jenna and Slade are written in a completely different tone. They were much more sweet and light to read and really distinguished between the two relationships. I will say that if he didn't have Mustang to push him along then Slades HEA may have never happened...the man was a stubborn as a bull. This book was often very funny. From the point where Jenna tells Mustang that she "has toys under her bed bigger than [him]" to the image of Slade in a flourescent green condom, the book often had me in stitches. I sniggered when the guys referred to taking Jenna home the morning after their first night together as the "walk of shame".....nice to know that terminology is universal! :) There were lots of incredibly sweet moments between Slade and Jenna as their feelings grew for each other and, after all the building, I didn't feel so bad that this book wasn't destined to be Mustangs HEA (who is my favourite character in the whole book.....sweet, sexy and funny.....just yum!:D) Read it if you like Cowboy romance's....you won't regret it!

Do you ever read a book with glowing reviews and wonder if they read the same book as you read? This was one of those books. Despite a very interesting premise, and a most lovely cover, this book never quite got going anywhere. Threads were hinted at, and dropped. The event at the center of the premise is not developed, nor is it integral. Ideas swirl, and drift away without being caught. Sadly disappointing. Did I mention how gorgeous the cover was?
