I loved this book. Told from the perspective of a 15-year-old autistic boy, it is in some ways similar to Vernon God Little, but was the farthest thing from a farce since the narrator had almost no ability whatsoever to express emotion, let alone a sense of humour. My book club had an interesting discussion regarding whether it would be likely that a child with autism would be as self-aware regarding their condition as Christopher was in this book. I suppose that may be something once can't really know, since a person with that degree of autism couldn't verbalize their experience well enough to tell us. I particularly enjoyed the use of diagrams to show the logical way Christopher thinks. Click here for example.

I likd Sabin, he was hot. I thought Gwen was an ok character, her weakness in the beginning was annoying but she got stronger with Sabin's help. They were hot together, cute couple. I liked the introduction of the harpies they were kick-ass. The ending annoyed me, that Gwen couldn't let them capture/kill her long lost father. The same man that authorized her capture and torture for a year smh. So dumb. Why would Sabin let her choose to let him go wtf. The story ran a bit too long but it was a cool read. Will read the next...is it Gideon's story?

This was a good read to help me catch up on basic physics since I didn't take any real physics classes in college. I figured I needed to at least start with the basics before even attempting to learn and pretend to understand more advanced physics like quantum mechanics.

After studying in Madrid, Spain for a semester I had a difficult time accepting the fact that I would no longer be living there. I bought this book as soon as I returned to the States and it was perfect. It took me back. I highly, highly recommend it for anyone who wants to visit.

This account of Operation Market-Garden is considered a classic for a reason. This a pretty comprehensive take on what probably the most complex combined-arms operation of the Second World War. The narrative is well organized, covering all three airborne divisions' actions, leading armored units of Montgomery's 2nd Army, the German forces that opposed them, and the Dutch civilians caught in-between. Even with all this information, the writing is very accessible. Operation Market-Garden itself was an amazingly complex and ambitious undertaking. German High Command initially discounted reports of massive airborne landings on the Nijmegen-Arnhem corridor because they never expected such an audacious move from the otherwise conservative Montgomery. "A Bridge Too Far" makes the argument that the operation was doomed from the start, mostly due to its complexity and lack of proper intelligence. Beyond the complexity and intel problems, the communications breakdown, especially with the British First Airborne in Arnhem, ensured that this division would not be able fulfill its objectives. The final collapse in that area including the delayed drop of the Polish Parachute Brigade was a particularly harrowing read.

I would have loved to introduce my middle school students to religion using this book! It raises all kinds of important philosophical questions, but in a gently entertaining manner.

Very good, probably my favorite John Grisham so far. It's not his normal style. It tells the story of a 7yr old boy growing up in a small town in Arkansas. It's a interesting look into the social structure and rural post WWII life in that region, while at the same time being just a thoughtful tale of a young boy's childhood. Think "Of Mice & Men" meets "To Kill a Mockingbird" meets "Huck Finn". Quick light, but entertaining read
