This is a quick read, and is in general full of good reminders (be gentle with yourself! love what you love! pursue your passions! have compassion!) but it was not in any way life-changing, nor did it make me happier or tell me anything I didn't already know. But sometimes a reminder of things I already know is nice, and this was a perfectly pleasant and moderately amusing reminder.

An intriguing story of a boy named Rigg who is a trapper, but after the death of his father (happens in first chapter, so not really a spoiler), learns that his life's journey is much more than he thought at first. I really enjoyed the "pathfinder" descriptions--they were by far the most compelling aspect of the story. The time travel portions started to become more clear, but were quite convoluted in the beginning. I laughed when I read the author's notes at the end where Card says that it took several drafts and several readers for him to get them cleared up for himself.

This novel was not as gripping as others in the series. It is set when Kinsey Milhone is younger and deals with an unsolved crime that is set even further in the past--the kidnapping of child. The reliability of Kinsey's client is called into question early on and adds some interest to the plot. The flashbacks to the time period of the crime aren't particularly convincing, especially the descriptions and actions of the "hippy" flower children living in the school bus. Kinsey does use some of her trademark ingenuity to follow clues and make connections, and the author does provide her usual thorough descriptions of place and character. A subplot related to Kinsey's childhood and family relations is only mildly compelling. Whether Grafton is running out of steam remains to be seen.

Wonderful book, rich in historical description. Emotionally gripping story about the desperate situations children experienced when leaving the Orphan Train. Loved the story of a family lost - and found.

Ah. I love this book. When an Egyptian prince is awoken by a modern teen, they must find a sacred object to save what the prince holds dear. If you like Egypt, if you like just a dash of romance, if you like a book that makes you happy and sad at the same time, this is for you. A great read!
** spoiler alert ** It's a rare thing when I find a series that makes me fall more in love with the characters and story with each consecutive book. City of Glass accomplished it...I am offically head over heals for CC (who is a genius story-teller) and TMI! If you don't know what I'm talking about, what are you waiting for? Seriously, go get a copy of City of Bones today! I particularly loved the messages of this final book. Standing up for what you believe in? Check. Knowing that one person (you) can make a difference? Check. Falling in love with the boy who makes you feel like a strong woman? Check. The RIGHT kind of love makes you stronger rather than weaker? Check. It's OK for boys to cry? Check. Your real parent(s) can be whoever loves you the most, not necessarily whoever's genes you carry? Check. And so on... As much as I love a certain YA novel/series that shall not be named (because I'm NOT comparing it to TMI), there are some disturbing themes and relationships in that particular story. TMI, on the other hand, is a series I could hand my daughter or son without reservations.

Heard about this on NPR as a common read for in-coming college Freshman.

Until Run, I can't really say I was a huge fan of Blake Crouch. I liked Desert Places just fine, but felt it lacked... something. I also enjoy his coop efforts with Kilborn, but attributed that more toward being a fan of Jack's. It wasn't that I disliked his writing -- just that there were always other authors I wanted to read more. Run changed that for me. A non-stop story of survival against enemies you couldn't see (no, not in the literal sense) was executed almost perfectly, knowing when to apply the high-octane tension, and giving you just enough time to get comfortable before it all started up again. Excellent, excellent book, and one that will have me buying the rest of Blake's books (and looking for amazing things in the future)

All through the first two Foundation novels there are references to there being a Second Foundation. It remains throughly shrouded in mystery throughout the first two volumes of Foundation stories. In this one, the mystery gradually unfolds. For some readers, this novel represents perhaps a logical stopping place for Foundation reading--the subsequent novels were published a long, long time later. But I don't remember what the flow is like between this novel and Foundation's Edge in terms of actually reading them.

Meh. I don't know that I care to read the forthcoming second book, which is a bad sign, 'cause I'll usually finish a series just to know for sure what happens. I still vaguely want to see the movie, but overall I'm disappointed.
