This novel was too emotional for me to read, which I suppose speaks to the power of Toni Morrison's diction and imagery. I was a new mother at the time, and the subject matter of the book was too much for me.

Loved this book took me forever to read it because of time, but glad I hung in there. What I found interesting was I have family that lives in the area of South Carolina this took place in. Those books are always a lot of fun to read. Would recomend this book to anyone.

I won this free copy through a Goodreads giveaway and I was very excited to read this. Where do I begin, but to say that this is a deliciously creepy read! For me, this novel starts out quietly and tells the story of Sarah Piper, a young woman with a lonely existence who answers her temp. agency's request for a job. At her interview she meets handsome,rich Alistair Gellis who investigates ghosts and hires Sarah to accompany him to a site where a young servant named Maddy Clare had committed suicide. Unbeknownst to Sarah, her new job opens doors to a hellish nightmare of a ghost's fury,frightening encounters and strange happenings all the while Sarah, her boss and his assistant Matthew try to find out why this dead woman's ghost is so angry and vengeful. I am not usually one for supernatural thrillers, but this book was at times spine tingling and had me on the edge of my seat! I am eagerly awaiting Simone St. Jame's next book!
