Shelley Keywood sk_x — This book really showed again the people and times through the eyes of Mark Twains wit adn wisdom. That he lived the life of say Little Big Man stands out so well from getting his brother to take him along to the job or roles he played it was great. This was a mix of wild west and people who didn't fit described in excellent detail.

Dean Dalmacio _ean_almacio — My second book by James Patterson and I was not disappointed in this one either. I have finally met Dr. Alex Cross. This book kept me guessing as to who was guilty. I could tell that there was a twist in this book but I wasn't able to figure it out right away. Alex Cross gets assigned to a kidnapping at an elite school in Washington DC even though he already has a case. It seems like a cut and dry case and that it could be solved quickly. That is not what happens. There are some many twists in this book that it kept me on my toes. I will be continuing this series.

李 奇泰 1052650769d8f4 — I find it impossible to say what makes this a great book. The fact that it is an accepted literary classic and in the "Canon" really surprises me. I love the book insanely, though, and can read it a million times. It just feels so light and "chicky" that I can't quite analyze its greatness.

Jack Lobjoit _acklobjoit — I thought the book was well written. The author did an amazing job in keeping the same voice as Mark Tawin's characters. My main issue with the book is the complete disgust I had for the main character. I found it really hard to care what happened at to him. All I thought when I was reading was what is the next self-serving horrible thing will he do? How will he ruin someone else's life? The fact that he died at the end did not provide any satisfaction. He used the poor laundress woman and brought back to her all those memories of that night her family was destroyed and he got off so easy. I was just disgusted through the whole novel.

Ana Vs anavsana — Really liked the story line and REALLY liked the hero, Kevin. The heroine, Beth, however was not a fave for me. Kevin sees Beth in the bar he owns being groped by a man. He basically goes to "save" her from unwanted attentions and ends up getting her fired from her job (the unwanted attentions were from her boss, who apparently has been doing this for months). They meet up again when Beth is working as a bartender for Kevin's brother's wedding. The end up sleeping together and she leaves in the morning (after Kevin unintentionally kicks her out). She finds out she's pregnant and goes to tell Kevin. He's actually very supportive and willing to help/support her in any way. Unfortunately, through the entire book, she pushes him away - doesn't want to depend on anyone - can only be friends - tells Kevin he doesn't know what he feels - fights every nice thing Kevin or his family does for her . . . and on and on and on. If she showed a more gradual warming up to Kevin and the possibility of a relationship, or was willing to see where a relationship would go, instead of thinking that if they didn't work out then they couldn't be friends and she would be all alone . . . she started out alone, how big a change would it be from her current circumstances . . . aside from having a baby? The entire book was a "one step forward, two steps back" experience. Until the last few pages when she suddenly decides that she loves him and wants a relationship with him (and to be a family). I would have definitely rated this book higher if it weren't for the heroine being so stand-offish through the bulk of the story.

Martine Richer _ioue_arts — Wow! An excellent tale of mystery and intrigue! Christine was a bit wet to be honest, I don't like such weak female characters. I defintiely recommend this book. The dastardly Phantom was a menace yet capable of a Heathcliff like all consuming kind of love. I am suprised to find that this book isn't on the 1001 books to read before you die list. An interesting decision - in fact I have preferred this to many books that do feature on the list. But, that is the trouble with something so subjective and prone to change with time and views as literature.

Felix Albert felixpena — Oh, it's been way too long since I've picked up a book that I couldn't wait to finish. And of course, I'm sad it's over...but at least there are two more to go.

Larry Baird larryebaird — Duty reading, thanks to too many "I want something like" questions I get on this one. Do I have to say it's not really to my taste? No, I didn't think so. Ah well, reading this alongside the Friedman is proving amusing. Sort of. Well, no. I don't know. *sigh* (13)
