Abiodun Samuel harbiodunsamuel — "Ağır" okumalarım arasında benim için harika küçük kaçış kitabı. Akıllı ve çok komik.

Nina Castellano _ina_ast — Jim and Huck are fellow escapees, drifting down the Mississippi on a raft. Huck has to struggle with his conscience for helping a slave to escape, which is a reflection of attitudes of place and time, but basic, moral principles prevail, no doubt because of Huck's lack of proper civilization. Things really get exciting when Tom shows up towards the end of the adventure, and they all have to work very hard making Jim the perfect prisoner, and setting up the perfect escape. Luckily they all survive it, but only with considerable hardship.

rashnushak
Rashnush Khobragade rashnushak — Originally on From Book to Hooked. As far as werewolf stories go, this one isn't at all bad. It's not entirely unique, but unique is hard to come by when there are so many werewolf stories out there. The thing that is unique when it comes to the werewolves in this story, however, is that their changes happen based on temperature. In other words, cold = wolf and warm = human. There's something about the way Maggie Stiefvater writes that gets to you. Shiver is just one example of her beautiful lyrical prose. You can connect with both Sam and Grace, as the story is written from their alternating perspectives, and I could literally feel their sadness as the story progressed. Still, as it is with most, if not all stories, I don't think everyone will enjoy Shiver. While Shiver does have other elements, when you really get down to it, it's a love story. The main plot is Sam and Grace fighting a transformation neither of them can control that could rip them apart. Stiefvater reinvented a horror story of half-human creatures and created something sad and beautiful. I think that's why I fell in love with this story: I'm a sucker for emotional stories. On to the characters! The best way for me to describe Grace is strong. While I didn't completely love her as a character, I feel like she holds herself together even when she wants nothing more than to break. With a case of the classic disappearing parent syndrome, Grace tries to pretend everything is ok; that it doesn't bother her to try so hard and be completely ignored. Grace also holds Sam together, in a way. When he's ready to give up, she keeps trying. Sam is also quite the character. I would describe him as... honorable? Emo seems good, too, but let's go with honorable. Or sweet. Sweet works, too. He's just... read the book. So, overall, I would recommend this book to people who happen to be suckers for love stories. I can't wait to see how Sam and Grace's story continues. *sigh* Do I even need to say "I'm hooked?"

luplup
Guadalupe Sánchez luplup — I looked and looked for a good book to help teach my first graders about Eleanor Roosevelt. Had they been a little older, this book would have been amazing. Beautiful pictures, excellent, heart felt and detailed look at the life and good works of Eleanor Roosevelt. However, I found it to be too text-heavy for my class, as well as introducing an enormous number of difficult topics (child labor, antisemitism, the Great Depression, women's right to vote, and on and on and on) that it seemed too much to tackle all in one lesson. Any of those topics could be a worthy discussion on its own, but they are too much all together for the age group. Instead I opted to read them only the first few pages about her girlhood and looked to other sources for the remainder of the lesson. However, the book on its own merits gets high marks from me.

Ramune Balciunaite ramunetuktuk — Philippa Ballantine's Geist is the first in the books of the Order. Sorcha Faris is among the most powerful Actives in the Order. She receives her marching orders by the abt of the Order and is send on a mission to Ulrich, an isolated village. The mission is to come to the assistance of the Priory and deal with the surge of violent geist activity that is plaguing the village. Because her regular partner is out of commission she is thrust into a partnership with the young, but powerful Sensitive novice Merrick. Their trip to Ulrich is frought with danger with geists that are not acting normal. During their journey they are rescued by the pretender to the throne, Raed Rossin, bearer of a terrible curse. The party arrives at Ulrich unprepared for what awaits them there. And that is only the beginning... I loved Geist. This book had me sitting on the edge of my seat. It's full of action. The interaction between the main characters is wonderful and often very amusing. Ballantine really managed to build a believable world. The story is told from the perspective of the three main characters. Of the three I could relate the most to Sorcha and Raed. They are both more mature than the lovesick puppy Merrick, although he certainly pulls off some awesome magic and manages to hold his own against his imposing partner. Sorcha is tough, arrogant and at times appears unfeeling, but her heart is definitely in the right place. I really liked her! It's another great addition to the genre as far as I'm concerned. I'll definitely be buying Spectyr, the sequel to Geist, which was published this Summer.
