mflorenzo
Maria Florencia mflorenzo —

Alex Kov kov1 — "It is a truth universally acknowledged, that a single girl of high standing at Longbourn Academy must be in want of a prom date." -First sentence of Prom and Prejudice Lizzie is a scholarship student at Longbourn Academy for her talent on the piano. But the other very rich, very entitled students have a long history with the scholarship kids. As a result, Lizzie is constantly hazed, tortured and ostrasized. Her roommate, Jane, is her only friend. Jane's sister, Lydia is a constant embarrassment. Of course, Charles Bingley is in this story--a student at the neighboring Pemberly Academy. Along with Will Darcy. Rather than focus on the similarities between Austen's Pride & Prejudice, I'll tell you the few differences. Will Darcy is not a snob, but Lizzie is so prejudice against any of the Pemberly and Longbourn students that she can't see that. Wickham is a creepy character, equal in vileness to Austen's character of the same name. Lizzie's parents are not wierd or strange, but normal and warm. Other than that, the story is nearly identical. There were a few twists but overall it is VERY similar to the original. I found it to be a fun, light read but nothing remarkable. And extremely short! I downloaded it on my Nook app on my iPad and found it not to be worth the $9.99 charged. How are ebooks so expensive? Even short ones? Can't price be proportional to length? Anyway, a good beach read. Writing is good, just predictable. Especially if Austen's Pride & Prejudice is one of your favorite novels! Content Warning: Reference to teen drinking and sexual situations.

G-slow G-slow gslow88 — I became bored with this book when I got to the second "book". The stories started out engaging and would quickly dwindle into very quick shot by shot wrap ups and explanations.

Liam Irwin liamirwin6d07e — High School Literature Class introduced me to many of these classics...and I have re-read them once or twice over the years. However, presently I am concentrating on reading and learning new things. However, I am trying to log in the books that I can remember reading. My goal for 2011 was to start and maintain a list and to read 52 books a year. Good reads just might be the place to be able to do this!

_yvig
Terry Dyvig _yvig — This book is worth mentioning since I feel like it made me about 50% of what I am - basically after discovering it at the age of 17, I wanted to be George Steiner (polyglot, massively erudite) but also still be a rock musician - whether I have succeeded is anyone's guess. It also, for a few years, made me think I wanted to go into linguistics, until I discovered that wouldn't really involve as much literature and philosophy as I'd imagined (there was one particular phonetics class that kind of broke my spirit) - in any event, I've returned to this hybrid of linguistics, literature and philosophy many times. Appending an analogy I just thought of - I suspect taking Steiner as your inspiration to be a linguist is similar to reading Witold Rybczynski and deciding to be an architect.

Terri Armstrong terri68c5 — The First part of the book, the human life of Acheron is terribly heartbreaking. I was so touched, I might have weep a time or two-Sheepish- It was so sad but I loved how the story was told. I can't stop reading, that book is totally amazing. I don't know but I felt like the book was mostly in the past, the future part was a less than the past. or so I think. I LOVE ACHERON!!!!!!!! He is my perfect perfect man! I seriously wish I could find someone like him! :) I couldn't put the book down until I passed out from exhaustion, It is a yummy read I devoured that book. It's a bit longer than the other books but it's totally worth it!
