sketchride_project

Seng U sengu911 — AMAZON BOOK REVIEW by Reja Janaki Joy Green If you have read and enjoyed “The lives of Helen Schucman and William Thetford” by Neal Vahle then I recommend that you read Carol Howe’s book: “Never Forget To Laugh: Personal Recollections of Bill Thetford, Co-Scribe of A Course In Miracles“. Although Neal Vahle’s book is a well documented account of the lives of both scribes in which he includes Carol among the many people who had a major impact on Bill, Carol’s book adds the depth that comes from truly knowing someone, having personally participated in his life. Neal recounts how Judy Skutch remarked in 1979, shortly after meeting Carol, “I know why you are here. Bill needs to be socialized. I bequeath you Bill.” And thus began Carol’s friendship with Bill. Even though some of the material in Neal’s book is also in Carol’s book, Never Forget To Laugh: Personal Recollections of Bill Thetford, Co-Scribe of A Course In Miracles is not simply a work of research. Carol brings a very unique perspective: Bill had been a house guest in Carol’s home; he had taken road trips with Carol, along with her husband Bob; and Bill had also participated with Carol at various Course events – as well as just simply meditating together. Carol’s reflections gave me a very personal sense of Bill, as if I had known him all my life. If you are a A Course in Miracles student, then Bill has already touched your life. With this book, Carol has given all of us glimpses of another dimension of Bill. He is our Brother and our Friend and someone who will always be a part of our lives. Treat yourself to this gift from Carol and find your connection with the beautiful and gentle soul of Bill Thetford.

李 莫愁 _e_er9 — The Castle is still my favorite Kafka, but this had quite a different feel to it while still holding to his unique style. I think its almost a predisposition that some people have to liking Kafka - while I love it, i can certainly see where others may not. But The Trial is excellent - even though it is unfinished, it seems to have been abandoned at exactly the right point of the novel, and in such a way that it ends perfectly.

Priscilla Lim _ — I was actually crying at the end. I used to look at my mom oddly when she cried at books that she read to me when I was little. Guess I finally grew up.

Terry Dyvig _yvig — Definitely better than The Da Vinci Code but still overrated.

Terri Armstrong terri68c5 — This is the last book that made me cry. And by "cry," I mean sob like a 15 year old girl into my pillow.

Willem Deenik _illem_eenik — I felt the ending was rushed. It felt like the author was thinking of the next book already. Might buy the next book, not sure though.

Isagus Extroversions _sagus — It's so hard to rate this memoir... Jaycee Dugard endured an unspeakable isolation and a level of abuse no one person should ever face. Her elementary-level retelling of these events is rather tough to read. Despite being an insightful young woman, a great deal of her book feels a bit superfluous and fluffy. That being said, I'm not sure I'd actually really want the REAL meaty details of her time in captivity. All in all, I read the book in a day, mostly because of its childlike sentence structure and story-telling. The first third of the book is horrifying...and then it becomes something else...dare I say a bit boring? Yikes... I feel like a terrible person for panning this woman's story. Read it if you are interested in her story and are willing to subject yourself to storytelling from a 5th-grade level educated 30-year old...otherwise, don't bother.

Chuck Harrison _outt_8 — I rarely read nonfiction, but I loved this book. I originally heard the author speak on NPR's Weekend Edition, and I was very moved by the piece. It discusses the realities of the Welfare System in the US and follows the lives of 3 women who received welfare. It made me want to read more nonfiction. It was amazing.

_iefen
Yuyu Yi _iefen — Essentially the only reason I read this series is because I ship Ally/Jake ridiculously hard and I don't care that I have to slog through craploads of drama because when they realize all that they need is each other it melts my heart and I just want to do happy dances forever. I completely understand why Ally was upset with Jake. Hiding something is just as bad as lying because you're still betraying someone's trust. And yet you completely understand that Jake doesn't want to be the one who tells her this devastating news. It's a double-edged sword. This Chloe/Hammond drama makes me want to roll my eyes at them for eternity because Chloe is being a total idiot and Hammond is just kind of nursing himself. IT'S SO OBVIOUS THAT THE BABY ISN'T JAKE'S AND THAT HAMMOND IS COMPLETELY WILLING TO BE FAITHFUL TO CHLOE. AARGH. I will totally read the last installment. These books are like crack. I swear.
