Xavier Porter minikurt008293 — I really enjoyed this book but thought that Huxely could have explored the society and the consequences of having the right to be miserable taken away, rather than romanticising the story to the extent that he did. Whilst I did enjoy it, I don't think it had as much impact on me as books such as 1984, which did examine the possibilities and consequences of a 'nanny state'. Having said that, taking the novel as just a story rather than looking at it as a commentary on society, I did really enjoy. I liked the writing style of Huxely and would recommend it to friends.

Gökhan Turhal leavethedo59e9 — Ten years ago when I first read this book, it had such an air of glamour and the future to it. Now I work in an office and live in suburbia and the book seems a little depressing; I was just too young to catch the depressing air of the book. It's the same with Smiths and Morrissey songs. I think this stuff is so stinking sad sounding, how could I have ever liked it so much? Amazingly, this book still has that feel of the future to it and it stills seems a little glamourous. So on re-reading it, I am still wowed by Coupland's ability to put a story together.
