Jose Jose josejose — Another great one from Rushdie! I learned so much about the history of the Kashmir region and enjoyed the story as well. Visceral and gritty but completely engaging.

Juliana Gs _uliana_oto — I like this book. It makes me hungry. I read it and want to visit New York City so I can try out these delicious restaurants. It also makes me want to experience eating out the rich way: with evening dresses and jewelry. *sigh* I don't think that will ever happen though. I become aware of how little I know about the dining opportunities for wealthy and cultured people. Fascinating. I didn't even realize so much of that still exists today. I just thought everyone went out to eat at Red Lobster and considered that fine dining. Also, I really like how she "becomes" the people as she dresses up in disguise. It is interesting to think about the different facets of her personality that so easily escape when given the license to expose themselves by anonymity. It makes me wonder what I would be like or if I have similar facets hiding somewhere. I have noticed a few language problems, mostly from her bosses. Something about journalists, I think they feel obligated to include conversations verbatum lest they inadvertently take something out of context. (Funny, that is what a lot of reporters do on purpose these days just to put their own spin on things.) I guess I can respect that, but it doesn't make it any more fun to read that kind of language, especially when it is coming from a highly educated EDITOR who ought to have plenty of other vocabulary from which to draw! Seriously. That said, it is mostly in a minor conversation on page 120. Just skip the last 2/3 of the page, you won't miss anything important, and you'll avoid all that ugliness.

李 山 a189563247220384 — I just love this book. I was reminded of this story after I signed up at goodreads and was looking through all of the books that I have read. I decided I needed more Jane Austen and went to my link text to see what other of her books I could read. (All of her books are there on that site and can be read on-line for free!!) I ended up reading Pride and Prejudice...agian. Only my second reading. Don't ask me how many times I've seen the movie. I'll never own to it! This is probably, one of the best love stories ever written. The theme is classic, yet simple...Man and woman meet. Man and woman despise one another. Man and woman slowly begin to realize they are in love and cannot live without one another and must overcome all obstacles and social conventions to be together. It's not an original theme, but can be compelling when told properly. That it has been immitated in books and movies over and over again, When Harry Met Sally, Bridget Jone's Diary...not to mention an entire industry of trashy romance novels that use variations of this basic story, speaks to the timelessness of it. While a popular and timeless notion, no one weaves such a tale of love, romance, betrayal and intrigue better than Austen. IMHO.

Alex Kov kov1 — Tied as my favorite Mary Stewart book, (who is my all-time favorite author), this books gives us a heroine who is all-too-aware of her shortcomings. And what is really nice, those weaknesses don't go away. She doesn't outgrow them, but instead learns to live with them. As for the mystery, there is a lot of action and fun characters. Danielle, in particular, is perfectly described. I happen to know someone just like Simon, so he is pretty easy for me to imagine too. The story is uncomplicated but gives just enough twists and turns to keep it interesting. While you know the bad guy from the beginning, it is the How that keeps you reading. And the great romance. It's subtle, but great.

Esteban Bonino quitobonino — While the end chapters are now slightly dated this is still a highly relevant short discussion about underlying patterns and regularities in the web. As a technologist and network thinker myself this is a book I should have read years ago and I'm glad I finally did.

Marika Giudice marikagiud — What an amazing book! It is the memoir of a woman who grew up in Islam-dominated Somalia and her experiences with her muslim family and their interpretation of their religion. It is at times hard to read because some of the rituals practiced are cruel and abusive, but overall her writing and intelligence and the portrayal of her experiences are definitely worth the read. I highly recommend this book!

Gw suka gaya bercerita Nad. Tapi kok pendek banget sih Nad? Gw hanya membutuhkan 1,5 jam untuk menyelesaikannya. Padahal tokoh-tokoh (di luar tokoh utama) banyak banget, ada si ini terus si anu muncul terus dateng si itu. Waah, pacar2nya banyak banget! Pengalaman pribadi kah? :D

Ariff Abd ariffhamid99 — This was billed as a quintessential short novel; perhaps "short story writing at its best"... I don't know about the "best," but this short novel was hilarious...it's about one day in the life of a young 20-something-year-old office lackey whose day starts off with a broken shoelace. His voice reminded me of David Sedaris -- sarcastic, satirical and just plain silly. Several passages made me laugh out loud on the Muni and I had to share them with Chris right away, who also laughed out loud. This was one of the few non-science-fiction books I could get Chris to read after I was done with it.
