Ashra Mcavinue ashramcavinue — I loved this book,,,it was a real story, kept me interested,,,thought it was interesting how he weaved magical with reality... just an old-fashioned 'good read'

李 莫愁 _e_er9 — It's sad when you can't even remember if you finished a book or not. Totally unremarkable and disappointing effort from Nick Hornby. I'll probably not pick up another one of his books again.

Lucy Morgan _ucy_organ — What a whiner... but I love him anyway. Jeff Brown's Clumsy is an intimate (and one-sided) look at a long distance relationship. It reads like every conversation with a lame boy you've ever had in your life. And yet, it is great. Read with Brown's mini-comic BE A MAN to help balance things out.

deys
Deys 2013 deys — Did not finish; stopped at page 208. I could not get behind America who is suffering from an affliction called TSTL syndrome (too stupid to live.) Her choices seem robotic and awkward, her dialogue and self-deprication feel desperate and forced. None of the other characters rise to the occasion of acting realistically, either. Besides that, and a serious lack of world building, The Selection is to The Hunger Games as Carrier of the Mark is to Twilight. That is to say an apparent knock-off. Gavril and Caesar are the same personality to a T. I tried to finish this one, but not finishing a novel speaks loudly to its readability and I do not knock any reviewer who still presents their opinions without first finishing the book. Not finishing a book says to me, I-Didn't-Like-It. A well written review tells me why. *** I would also like to say what a huge fan of Kiera's vlogs I am and how surprised I was that this book lacked her exuberant personality.

Thanh Huong thanhhuongc3e9 — I wish there were 3 and a halves, this book was touching and scientifically interesting but a little discombobulated at times which if you read Irene's story is totally understandable. Hope to read the Alex Chronicles soon!

annahlebutina
Anna Hlebutina annahlebutina — Just like anything else in life, I think the more you need and invest yourself in this book, the more you'll get out of it. I thought it was an easy read (I love short chapters) and a likeable author. I have a hard time with non-fiction, bio pics, that stuff in general because you can't craft the story like you could with a work of fiction. I think this was an ok read but I didn't love it. Her story is no different from anyone else I know, her journey is no different, the landscapes and adventures are more often the rule rather than the exception now that I am also living abroad. So why should we care? I think we care because it is comforting to know that other people have gone through the same sh1t. It's inspiring, it's hopeful, and although lots of people are strong enough to dust themselves off and move on after a divorce, some can't. I wanted to know more about the locations she visited. I wanted to hear all about the food, the places she saw, the characters she came across. She did it a little but never too in depth with anything. We don't even know her ex-husband's name or what really went down in that marriage, and because those things are missing I feel disconnected with her story. It would help me understand the situation better. I get it though, what's missing is not what this book is about. I'm just saying I would have liked it better. The most interesting part of the book, for me, was Yudhi's (the Indonesian guitar player). I thought his story was amazing, and completely devastating getting torn from his wife and NYC post-9/11. If there are any stories about post 9/11 deportation, I wanna hear them. The book was honest. Casual. Like talking to a friend.
