I never finished this because of time constraints and after hearing what my book club members said about it, I decided not to. It's a story based on the marriage of Charles Dickens, who, it turns out, was not a nice guy. It's told from the POV of his spurned wife and he was awful to her. Not particularly interested.

This was a very fun book! From the first page, Calliope has such a fun voice that you just want to keep reading. It's first person POV, so you can hear all of her hilarious, snarky, and sometimes a bit naive thoughts as she bumbles her way around, proving to the powers that be that she is a worthy successor to her dad. Who is Death. THE Death. He's been kidnapped, along with most of his helpers, and Callie's taking the blame unless she can become the next Death and solve the mystery. Tons of fun, with great, quirky characters including a fussy faun, genius kid sister, and an adorable hellhound puppy.

i'll give it this... it was an easy read. other than the periodic puking because of the cheese factor and my impatience because the same pattern kept repeating over and over again, it didn't take me long to finish. because it's teen fiction. whatever. i don't regret reading it.
