Jordanna A jordannapardal — This was a very fun book! From the first page, Calliope has such a fun voice that you just want to keep reading. It's first person POV, so you can hear all of her hilarious, snarky, and sometimes a bit naive thoughts as she bumbles her way around, proving to the powers that be that she is a worthy successor to her dad. Who is Death. THE Death. He's been kidnapped, along with most of his helpers, and Callie's taking the blame unless she can become the next Death and solve the mystery. Tons of fun, with great, quirky characters including a fussy faun, genius kid sister, and an adorable hellhound puppy.

Pierre Fabre peyop — WWI military historical fiction that follows a handful of different characters fighting in various capacities along the Western Front. Not that well written, but often paints and insightful and, at times, harrowing portrait of the fighting conditions. He spends a long time (too much) on the air war.

Peter Rod peterrod — Told in flashbacks, Henry, a widow in his 50's, recalls his WWII youth in Seattle's Chinatown. His parents sent intelligent 12 yr. old Henry to a "white" school, where he met Japanese-American Keiko, the only other non-white student, and friendship develops... The definition of "American" is an important theme. The author vividly describes life in war-time Seattle and internment camps. Descriptions of Seattle's rich black jazz history is a bonus. Henry and Keiko seem super mature and thoughtful for someone so young. I'm glad I read this, mainly for local detail.

Adeolu Ajadi adecasper — this book reminded me a lot of the red tent. i found it to be an especially interesting read because at the time i read it, i had just completed a bible study over the patriarchs of the old testament. a woman's perspective is always refreshing when men are usually the focus. i can't wait to read the rest of the books in the trilogy.

Bobby Bosquez myphotodes1349 — I found this book about a futuristic utopia sort of refreshing and very interesting.

Anton Khodakovsky bookcoversforall — This brought tears to my eyes. Even more radical was the little girl who was from an atheistic family. Great read. Kids' version is coming out in November 2011. And yes! I cried!
