I love Tuscany, so it was with complete despair I abandoned reading this crappy, crappy book. It was a total surprise too, how much this book sucked. I had seen the movie, assumed the book was different, better somehow. But NO. This book should have stayed where it originated- this womans kitchen. I hate have such strong negative opinions over a book about one of my favorite places on earth, but oh well... Sorry, Frances, better luck next time.

it dragged on and on, from what i hear on purpose to give the reader a sense of what the protaganist's life was like. i guess it worked because i was depressed about the book and trudged on with the promise of a rewarding ending. the mundane beginning was too much and lost my interest, and the last third was too colorful to be believed. unlikely the man in the first part was able to see the life and color hesse dragged him through in the second half.

This was a good book about a Silverwing bat who gets lost. He has to find his way back to his family so that they can hibernate. It takes a long time a he meets a brightwing bat, an albino bat, and two evil cannibal bats. But, he has to get home. This he knows.
