this is the most entertaining book I've read in a long time--or ever, maybe. Yeah, its not a Great Work, but whatever. I was sorry it was only 1,000 something pages. It also has a few great haiku's in it, so that's a bonus.

The first essays are mothers who really wanted girls or wanted their boys to be less boy-like (or more boy-like). Not much about the raising of sons but more about how their expectations of their children were not met. The later essays are about boys turning into teenagers which I'm not ready to face yet. I only read the first one, realizing I'd read later essays by same author and know her son-in-transition is now dead after falling in with the wrong crowd and developing a drug problem. Too sad to think about where kids may end up. I think I like my clueless parenting where I'm not sure what will happen next but it's all an adventure.

Thanks to Goodreads for sending me this novel. It is a unique story that would make a darling movie. Linda Francis Lee did an outstanding job portraying the shallowness of Sandy (Einstein) and the depth of Emily's character. A fun, easy read that provides a wealth of thought-provoking material on love, honor and mother-daughter relationships.

I don't know were to begin. This is a very dark tale so Absolute Midnight is a very fitting title. Once again Clive Barkers villains are the light in the darkness. The twisted family drama involving Mater Motley and the newly and thankfully resurrected Christopher Carrion is fantastic. As always with Barker just when you think you've got a handle on whats going on he heaps on more taking the story to another level you didn't see coming. Like icing on a very large cake. At times the events happen so fast the middle seems to be skipped revealing holes in a very fine tapestry. Still I can not wait for this series to be completed so I can read them as a whole to really enjoy the threads woven throughout. This book is well worth owning just because of it beautiful design. These are the types of books publishers should be putting out finely crafted books that are lost in translation to an electronic medium. Something you'll love to hold in your hands and enjoy in all its three dimensional glory.
