Witch Song was so unbelievably outstanding, that I'm having a hard time translating my thoughts and feelings into a sufficient review. Amber Argyle for me, has earned herself a rank equivalent to the best fantasy fiction authors of this decade. A witch's voice, her song, holds the power. Also called the Keepers, they control nature and the changing of the seasons. Not only can they use there song to aid the environment, but they can also use it to fight and defend. Witch Song is foremost about Brusenna's journey to defeat the Dark Witch and free the other witches, for she alone is the last one standing. From the first chapter, first page, first word, I COULD NOT PUT THIS DOWN. No matter the beginning, middle, or end, this book never fell short of amazing. The whole fantasy world that I'm guessing is set in the latter part of the medieval century, is so captivating. The mixture of this setting with an addictive plot, results in one of the most commendable books. No chapter didn't belong, and no word bored me. Every character, minor or main, is woven into the story so perfectly. The cynical/evil characters were just as fun to read about as the trusting/good ones. Brusenna showcases character development like none I have ever read. I won't give anything away, but she is definitely not the weak little girl that she begins as by the end. Her fearless determination to do what needs to be done, is something to be envious of. The relationship that develops between Brusenna and her protector (Joshen) is quite unique and special also. With the era, they begin with a modest and innocent friendship. After what they get put through together though, love almost becomes inevitable. Their relationship blossoms parallel to Brusenna's development. My words alone aren't enough to do this book justice. After this review, anyone would still find it hard to fathom the true greatness of WITCH SONG. What you need to do, is pick up a copy on the first day of September for yourself. Better yet! Pre-order it on Amazon, Borders, Barns & Noble, or the Book Depository. Amber Argyle created an epic story, and has become one of my new favorite authors.

The movie was much better than the book. The movies named was originally "Death Train" but was changed to "Detinator". MacLean died while writing this book. It was completed by his understudy. I think that is why we lose that Alistair MacLean flavor in the book.

I picked this book randomly from BYU's Japanese literature shelf and I was happy to find a YA book about a teenage boy who murders his mom. Um, let me start over. I thought it would be a horror book, but it was more about the inner lives of five teenagers in Japan. The issues they struggled with are real issues in Japan right now (parental abuse, absent parents, subway perverts, acting to fit in with the crowd, etc.). There was a lot of teen angst, which is pretty typical for the genre, and there was some sex and violence, but it was at levels okay for older teens.
