Although the narrator (one or more of the sisters?) bothered me a bit, I loved the characters and various Shakespearean references scattered throughout the novel.

Certainly a cute tale: a twist on the Pied Piper of Hamlin that is worth a read if you want some of Prachett's usual antics. :)

This book was very, very deep and very spiritual. A very good read and I can see why people like it so much. You have to really be able to concentrate while you're reading it though, so make sure you have some quiet time to ponder the spiritual issues he raises. Very well written.

Wow, as vivid as the vampire chronicles but not nearly as gory or um. . .suggestive. I loved this book and it provided an excellent new view to the "creatures of the night." I can only hope the sequal "new Moon" will be as good.

I loved this book. For me, the detail in which Franzen writes ameliorates the characters he writes about. I liked the intergenerational relationship patterns and the scope of the novel. I was not put off by the ending. I plan to read The Corrections soon but need to take a breather from Franzen.

This book is unique in the Potter series because it shows a darker side of Harry Potter=, making him more realistic. Potter, like most teens, goes through a period of teenage angst. Although he is a wizard, he is still human. Great book!

** spoiler alert ** I have such mixed emotions about this book that I don't even know if I can make a coherent review, but I'll try. I thought it was very interesting to look at the Holocaust through the eyes of an innocent child. When we think of Nazi Germany, we automatically think of the evil men and woman who killed millions of innocent people based on their religious beliefs, but often times we forget that it was also a place filled with families and children of Nazis who had little to no involvement. In the case of Bruno's family, his mother and grandmother were very against the war and could not believe that the father was doing this "job". Bruno never gets the whole story about his father's life, but the way he looked up to him, almost like a superhero, was heartbreaking because he just saw the side of his father at home. Bruno was so innocent and even when he sees the other soldiers around his home, he doesn't think his father could ever be like them. Bruno's innocence is one of the big problems I had with this book, though. I feel as though he was too innocent. While most of the world did not know genocide was occurring in Europe, Bruno lived so close to it that it's hard to believe he would have known nothing about what happened at the camps. As the son of a Nazi, he would have been taught that "Jews are bad" and when his sister brings it up to him the first time, he is shocked and has no idea. That is unbelievable to me. In fact, most of the book is unbelievable to me. I don't even know what I'm saying. This book got me all twisted up. I would recommend it still, but not to everyone.
