Should give these 5 stars instead of 4 cuz I keep re-reading them, but I think that's just because I've developed a crush on Bubba, one of the characters. I've got this thing for sociopaths, ya see.... Anyway, these are excellent, gritty crime noir.

This book went beyond the level that so many erotica books stop at. I like the story like with its twists and turns, but I must admit to being educated on several sexual practices that I wasn't aware of. Well written and entertaining. I sent this on to other friends and they all had the same reaction - WOW!

The author claims that his work is not a futuristic novel, yet it is quite easily identifiable as a futuristic dystopia. Set in the United States, the author presents the reader with a world in which the large majority of Americans have had computer chips implanted in their brains. The user is bombarded with a constant string of information, primarily commercial. Users have the freedom to "chat" or communicate with out speaking. Knowledge of language is rapidly deteriorating. Schools are copyrighted and run by large corporations which teach students how to use computer technology to buy and sell. The narrator begins a relationship with Violet, whose "feed" begins to malfunction. I'm a retired English teacher. If I was still in the classroom, I would teach this book in conjunction with 1984 and and Brave New World. What fun!

I have read most of Murakami's Haruki Murakami stuff. After a long stint with his novels several years ago, I was a little burned out, but my boyfriend took me to a stage production of After the Quake. It reminded me what an excellent story teller, Murakami is. I especially like his short story abilities.

4.5 stars. This book was really really cool. It seemed to start off a bit slow... getting the characters established and things. And I was a bit worried about Frankie in the beginning, because the relationship she's in is like RED FLAG Central! Like it's SO INCREDIBLY OBVIOUS to me that it's not a good one, just with the way she's thinking and talking about the guy she's with, so... Yeah, I was worried. And then at about the halfway point in the book, the inner Frankie took over and started kicking SERIOUS butt! Like... HOLY CRAP, Frankie is the coolest girl of all time. And I LOVED all the word-play... and how E. Lockhart ties that word-play in at the end. I didn't see it coming, but it totally made sense. Love-love-loved the new vocab... ;) The best thing about Frankie is that she embodies the inner bad-ass we all secretly WANT to be but don't dare to be... (Like how House is the inner JERK-FACE we all secretly want to be but are too nice to be...) One of my friends said that she couldn't really relate to Frankie, and it's true that my mind works in a different way than hers, but who doesn't want to be as awesome as her? I wish I had amazing ideas like hers and the guts to make them happen. It was awesome.

I LOVE these guys! I couldn't wait for this book to come out and I downloaded it and read it as soon as I got home tonight. What a great story for these two. I was pretty pissed off at Derek's family and the way they treated Elliot and Derek before the wedding - especially that creepy BIL who instigated the whole foolishness. I loved that Derek stood up to them and didn't stay where he had to listen to words like "tolerate". And that he came to his senses. Great conclusion for this fun couple.

The popularity of this book was one of the reasons I wanted to read it, to see if it was as good as it had been reviewed. I would have to say it did live up to the reviews. I found it very intriguing and hard to put down. I just wanted to keep reading one more page so I could see what happened to Katniss. I now can't wait to read Catching Fire and Mockingjay.

First off, yes, I did read this book before taking on one of Eddie Bravo's students at Grappler's Quest. And yes, I did dismantle the guy and shrug off every attempt he made at getting Bravo's patented "lockdown" on me, even as Bravo himself screamed at the guy to do so from the edge of the mat. It was actually a lot like that scene in "Patton" where George Patton defeats Erwin Rommel after reading his book "The Tank in Battle". I even shouted, "Bravo, you magnificent son of a bitch, I read your book!" after the victory (not really). That being said, the book is pretty sweet. You get to hear all about Eddie Bravo's music career (irrelevant? yes. hilarious? of course) and you learn what was going through his mind before his first match in the Abu Dhabi Championships (the words "dude" and "totally" are peppered throughout). I recommend it for the serious grappler as well as for the part-time enthusiast.

Though I'm not sure which version I read, the Swiss Family Robinson story has always been one of my favorites since childhood. One of the reasons I like this book most is its ability to set the imagination loose on the island. There were very few points where I didn't picture myself in the same or similar circumstances as the characters in the book, wondering just what I would build, or how I would react. Sandbox fantasies such as this are always fun to read. If you liked this book, I would also suggest reading The Mysterious Island by Jules Verne and Robinson Crusoe by Daniel Defoe--both very good stranded-on-an-island books and well worth reading.
