I really enjoyed this book. It is Butcher's first, and in some places that shows, but overall it was a very good read. The plot kept me interested, and I did not figure out the whodunit until the end.

A little stale in the descriptions of each religion. At the same time, a nice compilation of important passages in the World's holy scriptures. I would recommend Huston Smith's The World's Religions over this book.

"I see Manhattan like an ocean liner adrift in the middle of the Atlantic, never reaching its port. The moorings have been cast off. There’s no turning back to dry land. We’re all thrown together on this phantom ship, hallucinating, without connection to the other world. It’s a trip from which we’ll never come back." Ah. Yes!

This was billed as a quintessential short novel; perhaps "short story writing at its best"... I don't know about the "best," but this short novel was hilarious...it's about one day in the life of a young 20-something-year-old office lackey whose day starts off with a broken shoelace. His voice reminded me of David Sedaris -- sarcastic, satirical and just plain silly. Several passages made me laugh out loud on the Muni and I had to share them with Chris right away, who also laughed out loud. This was one of the few non-science-fiction books I could get Chris to read after I was done with it.

A fun, quick read that explains how Jon Scieszka ended up as...well Jon Scieszka.

Lost most of the silliness that reared its ugly head in Emerald Sea.
I repeated laughed out loud while reading this book. The situations the author talks about are nothing special, but the way she writes about them makes them very memorable.
