I've read this book twice. Once in high school where I decided I hated it, and then again in college where I after reading much more torturous books I decided that this book really was quite good after all.

Parody vampires are in force, their origin (to pinpoint exactly what is what) or why it’s about vampires at all is a kind of off story. Historically what were vampires while they were taking over our world from the Americans point-of-view and who did you suspect had a hand in stopping them originally when in America? Abraham Lincoln was a crusader amoung vampire according to this journal style drama. Lincoln’s vengeful killing band aka slayers and his mysterious toting vampire pal are vampslayers, and rarely got convincingly to any real point in the story, rarely make very clear any point here or there worth to consider, and I think has been not at all well written to unconvincing degrees. It’s descriptive jargon poor and blah blah bland and forces very little of any kind of history enlightening any readers to suggest reading. Unless you like plain uninteresting reads.

On the eve of the outbreak of WW2, a clipper ship of the Pan American Line is due to fly from England to New York. These massive flying boats are the epitome of luxury and passage can be afforded by only the wealthy. It's a mixed bag on this trip-an aristocratic family who have been forced to leave England because of the fathers fascist views, a petty crook,an eloping couple who are being pursued by the womans jealous husband and various others. It's a gripping and exciting tale, well written and a good, fast, satisfying read.

Rick Riordan just keeps surprising me. The Lightning Thief was already a Masterpiece, and then he came and transformed it in something even better, polishing it and giving it a shining new view. You have not seen even half of what the demigods are capable of. New powers, abilities and another side of the story we already know, clearing old aspects and creating new ones. Percy's world is way bigger and complex than you think, and it will surprise you even more. Again you'll have to pick a side, but this is way beyond bad boys against good boys anymore, what are you waiting for?

The author's father was named Michael Shaara and wrote "The Killer Angels" which was a Pulitzer Prize winning novel that was made into the movie "Gettysburg". The son, Jeff Shaara, copied his father's unique writing style but did not do it justice. Admittedly, "The Killer Angels" is a historical fiction novel that covers 3 days while the son had to cover several years of the Civil War. This was not easy for that writing style. Still the book is an acceptable prequal to the "Killer Angels" if you enjoyed the characters and I have purchased but not yet read his sequal to "Killer Angels" and his novels on the Mexican-American War and the Revolutionary War.

I absolutely loved this book. It reminded me of a more current version of The Catcher in the Rye, but it was not derivative at all. It isn't often that I'm drawn into a novel right from start to finish, but this book was incredible. I was sad to have finished it.

We never find out what the main character's name is, but "Q" is the love of his life. They are firmly entrenched in wedding plans when a future version of the protagonist, through the miracle of time travel, appears to warn him against going through with the marriage. This is only his first visitor; there are many others, of varying ages, similar but different - each affected by changes the previous ones set in motion. At the instruction of these future selves, the author struggles to be a writer, a teacher, a lawyer, a world traveler - changing directions at a moment's notice. Interesting questions are raised, the most obvious being, "If you could go back and change your life, would you?" Perhaps more important is the question, "Should you?" What flows from that, of course, is how would those changes affect the future, and how many times would you have to keep doing it over until you got it right? Once the author starts tinkering with his life, nothing really goes smoothly; the only constant is his love for Q, and his inability to fill the gaping void of her absence. The book is written with very frank wit; the author has a tendency to veer off course, telling side stories that add substance, and not a little humor, to the main thread of the tale. It's a fun book to read.

** spoiler alert ** Where do I begin reviewing the latest addition of the BDB??? I am utterly in love with J R Ward's world and I hope I can do her writing justice in expressing my opinion of Lover Unleashed. Right off the bat LU is not in the same realm as Lover Eternal or Lover Awakened (my 2 favorites). The 2nd and 3rd BDB books were still in the process of building their world and the focus was most on the two brothers and their prospective mates. They were predominately romance. Now that we are generally familiar with the brothers, the world they live in and their shellans it seems Ward is taking us deeper so we can not only oooo and ahhhh over their hotness and bad ass alpha maleness but learn what makes them tick as well. V's sister Payne was injured while sparring with Wrath. Unable to operate confidently Jane looks for her old friend Manny Manello who is more specialized and gifted in orthopedic surgery to help Payne. When Manny arrives at the compound and sees Payne sparks fly and of course there we have our newest BDB blossoming relationship. Payne and Manny are not the sole focus of LU though. Learning he has a twin sister plants something within V that makes him have to either come face to face with who his parents are and what they did to him or he will self destruct. This is a huge portion of the book. V's emotional parental baggage and how he and Jane have to get through it with his best friend's help. Other new characters have been introduced yet again in LU. Most predominant is Xcor and his "band of bastards". They are vampire warriors who have come from the old country to where their enemies (the lessors) have migrated to, Caldwell NY. And wonder of wonders Xcor doesn't think Wrath is doing a good job and he wants it. The band of bastards cross paths very limitedly with Payne and we are set up for the clash between the bastards and the brothers. The final storyline taking place was that of a serial murderer investigation Butch's old parter detective De La Cruz and his new parter Tom Delvechio are assigned to. I read a couple reviews that didn't seem to connect the relevance of why this part was included in LU. What does the investigation of human detectives of human murders have to do with the brother's world? When I made the connection of what (I believe) the two have do do with the other my first thought was that Ward is a genius. I believe that Tom Delvechio, De La Cruz's new partner is the main man in Envy, the next book in Ward's Fallen Angel series. This was soooo exciting to me because I love Jim Herron and the other angels almost as much as the brothers. The thought of their two worlds coming together made me giddy. I love J R Ward's writing. She is without a doubt my favorite author. Though LU was not even close to my favorite BDB book I have to admire her skills which are top notch. But because this is my review and because I was disappointed in many aspects of the book I knocked it down to 4 stars. My disappointments were: there was very few appearances of the other brothers and their shellans. I miss Rhage and Mary dammit! I was also let down by the fact that all of a sudden at the beginning of the book Vishous has a sister... There was no build up, no introduction she was just there and V was stressing out because she was paralyzed. My next let down was, Wrath kicked Payne's ass, that was how she got paralyzed, "sparring with Wrath". Wouldn't Wrath feel just a little guilty about that? Maybe check on her once or twice to see "what's doing"? There was very little indication of Wrath interacting with Payne at all in regards to her health, or the injuries she sustained because of him. He gave her some amped up Wrath blood but... Very un-Wrathlike by my standards. Last but not least the whole Manny being Butch's brother was very weak to me. Maybe we'll find out more about that later but that was like a tiny blip on the screen of the entire book. Shouldn't what SPECIES Manny is take a little bit of priority? Half of Butch's book (ok that's an exaggeration, but a good portion of it) was about him finding out he had vamp blood. Over all I LOVE J R WARD. I cannot take away too much from my rating simply because she didn't write a story exactly how I would like or how I would have written it. We all have different directions we would like our favorite stories to go. (For example I really don't want a Quay hook up. Don't stone me, I'm not homophobic I swear but I love Quinn and giving a fine man like that to another man, and depriving the females of him is just a waste to me). LU was a turning point in the BDB world. The lessors, who were almost non-existent in this book are building their forces and the brothers are going to need all the help they can get. I can't wait for the next one, even though I have not the smallest clue who that one is going to be about.
