Font Vixen fontvixen — Don't be fooled by the lame title, the cringe-worthy cover photo, or the numerous explanations of the word "blog." This is actually a very intelligent, well-written, and loving look at fan culture on- and offline. Of special note is "Monsters Next Door," a father-son dialogue about portrayals of adulthood, adolescence, and adult-adolescent relationships in Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

Megan Shiver _egan_hiver — We never find out what the main character's name is, but "Q" is the love of his life. They are firmly entrenched in wedding plans when a future version of the protagonist, through the miracle of time travel, appears to warn him against going through with the marriage. This is only his first visitor; there are many others, of varying ages, similar but different - each affected by changes the previous ones set in motion. At the instruction of these future selves, the author struggles to be a writer, a teacher, a lawyer, a world traveler - changing directions at a moment's notice. Interesting questions are raised, the most obvious being, "If you could go back and change your life, would you?" Perhaps more important is the question, "Should you?" What flows from that, of course, is how would those changes affect the future, and how many times would you have to keep doing it over until you got it right? Once the author starts tinkering with his life, nothing really goes smoothly; the only constant is his love for Q, and his inability to fill the gaping void of her absence. The book is written with very frank wit; the author has a tendency to veer off course, telling side stories that add substance, and not a little humor, to the main thread of the tale. It's a fun book to read.

Alessandro Descovi descovifb16 — As a huge fan of the Andrew Lloyd Webber musical which I have seen on Broadway twice, I was very interested in reading the book. With the novel, you get to know the real phantom - a creature; a frightening being that kills. Webber's phantom in both the play and the movie, you find yourself routing for the phantom to win the heart of the heroine Christine over his nemesis Raoul. I have fallen in love with the phantom in both the play and the movie (especially the movie as Gerard Butler is HOT)! Reading Leroux's classic novel finds you in an almost entirely different story altogether.

Nicholas Hartmann sakhaltai — My favorite chapter is on Paste Jewelery and Sawdust Hotdogs. Reading Manning elicits tears from my eyes. I was moved by the humility and compassion that he shares after wrenching out the honest brutal truth of seeing what sin does to the lives of people. The telling of a man in an AA meeting who is in denial about his addiction is heart wrenching!
