To be honest, I didn't really enjoy this as much as matched. I couldn't feel a great deal of chemistry between Ky and Cassia but otherwise it was entertaining.

Warning... This won't be a popular review for the many fans of this book, but so be it. I did actually finish over half of this book, but what a let-down... I'm not sure what gave this author or her editors the idea that this would make a great book. Even more baffling is that it received such great reviews. Are we really that unhappy as a society that we need a book like this to tell us what all of us probably already know? I guess some points served as nice reminders, but there wasn't much new information here, from my perspective. Sorry... I tried. I really did.

I really enjoyed this book even with the obvious similarity to the Percy Jackson books. I thought it was quite good, the characters were well thought out and had great progression. The story was pretty interesting even if it was rather obvious what was going on and what the "twist" was. I'm definately going to pick up the other books in this series. I really enjoyed the characters and certain hints of things about the Spartans will keep me reading these for quite some time.

Come for the existential angst, stay for the gorgeous language. I'm not sure I fully understood what McCarthy was trying to get at with this book (I've read he spent 20 years writing it, off and on), but I have drawn my own conclusions and have taken what I consider my due from it, according to the effort I put in while reading it. I feel there is much more to be gleaned than I managed, and I cheer on any who delve more deeply. If you're curious what my interpretation of the text is, here: (view spoiler) Like I said, there's bound to be a heck of a lot more to unpack here. I didn't read it with my critical eye switched on.
