I really don't enjoy reading parenting books, but this one was worth reading for sure.

Don't forget to take the Kleenex box with you to your reading chair, you'll need them. The 3rd book about people from the town of Clayburn is well written, full of great character development and emotion. Doug loses his wife and 5 year old daughter to carbon monoxide, suddenly he's a widower with 5 children and one is a 12 year old girl. How do you get through the grief process and successfully navigate life as a single father with 2 jobs and 5 children. It's a romance so we all know that he finds love, but is it real love? What I liked about this story was that it didn't follow the main romance template where everything ends at the wedding and "they lived happily ever after" because we all know that doesn't happen. The story follows the characters for a year, through all their ups and downs, their growing togethers and their growing aparts.

I'll admit...with the shocking ending of the third book I dove into this one with bright hopes of tying up at least a few loose strings. That didn't happen. The further I read the more I realized that Martin's focus had fallen to a different spectrum of characters. At first, bitter disappointment took me by hand. But as I continued to read I realized that all of my favorite characters (less one sneaky imp) were interwoven throughout the storyline. Only a few of the 'star' characters received chapters to themselves but if you read carefully you will find countless whispers of other characters, some so minor that it took me a second or two to realize the implications. I left the book even more hungry for the next...Martin is a true master at character development. So much so that I dropped $13.00 at 1:27 am last night just so I could start the next chapter in this breathless saga.

i couldnt decide between 4 stars or 3. this zine is actually not too bad i enjoyed reading parts of it and everything but i also got bored at some parts and i also highly disagreed with some of the things he talked about [such as bassically insulting people who do graffiti]. its not bad if you like zines that get kind of depressing check it out.

This has proven to be a very good book. I'm not a database expert, but I happen to need PostgreSQL because I am working on a project that involves GIS, and PostGIS turns out to be a very appropriate tool for what I am doing. This book got me started and has helped me through the importing of data, understanding basic functions, and incorporating PostgreSQL into my programs (I use a combination of R, Python/Jython and Java. The book does not talk about them all, but what is in there carries over pretty well.) I've also used this to use BIRT and Openoffice.org to link my PostgreSQL databases. Again, it is not spelled out, but what was in here brought me well along the way to making it work.

I enjoyed this book for two reasons. One is that I am obsessed with Mormons and find them and polygamy fascinating. I also love true crime novels. Under the Banner of Heaven fulfilled both of my loves beautifully. Juxtaposing the history of LDS and the story of the murder of Brenda Lafferty and her infant daughter helps the reader to understand how the murderers came to believe they were doing God's will. The book provides an unbiased account of the formation of the Church of Latter Day Saints, which is important to understand to comprehend what the Lafferties were thinking when they committed the murders. An excellent read for anyone who is interested in LDS, modern American churches and true crime.
