Under the Banner of Heaven fulfilled both of my loves beautifully. Juxtaposing the history of LDS and the story of the murder of Brenda Lafferty and her infant daughter helps the reader to understand how the murderers came to believe they were doing God's will. The book provides an unbiased account of the formation of the Church of Latter Day Saints, which is important to understand to comprehend what the Lafferties were thinking when they committed the murders. An excellent read for anyone who is interested in LDS, modern American churches and true crime.
