This was on my to-read list for the longest time, then a friend recommended it to me and I decided to finally mark it off the list. I read a Cat and Bones short story a while back and it was interesting to see how the story begins. Cat seems so young in the beginning of this book! But I thought it started out well and kept me interested the whole time. I have a feeling that this will be an action-packed series. I enjoyed that the romance between Cat and Bones doesn't consume the entire book- there is still plenty of storyline outside of their romance and so that kept it more interesting to me.

Oddly enough, the Huck Finn/Tom Sawyer novels never quite garnered the same love as the rest of Twain's work for me -- odd, given that my family (on one side or another) has lived on 'the river' for four generations now (and how very much do I dislike living away from it!). Perhaps it's my general disdain for novels written in dialect, perhaps it's the tedious recounting of boyish antics (as if little girls don't get into just as much trouble), I'm not sure, but I was never as pulled in to these novels as I was to Twain's essays and other narrative accounts of river life.

After the Oprah debacle I was hesitant to read this book but even after all of that it kept my interest throughout. Some parts are tough to get through but if you take them with a grain of salt its worth reading.
