Light, fluffy and very interesting - much like Ms Francis. She admits to mostly leading a charmed life and the book overflows with the bubbly feeling of that. With her life in the theatre, movies and television she had met most of the big names of the 40's, 50's, 60's and 70's. There are some fun stories, some poignant stories but overall it was a story of the life of a very popular star who wasn't a superstar but was well loved.

Such a sweet story! A good refresher for moms. Just let your kids be kids and find out the big wide world for themselves!

Originally posted at: http://longandshortreviews.blogspot.c... Storm chasing, photographing the clouds, saving a man, and getting arrested... all in a days work for Allie. You'd think that Chance would be grateful for her help, but this stubborn, overly suspicious man isn't. What a way to make a first impression! Allie isn't as young and fragile as she looks. All he had to do was look up her license plates, or check her ID to know she's not a runway teen. Chance is baffled when she talks about a degree, and all the things she's done...and he realizes his mistake. Much to his dismay, he's attracted to this drifter. But there's so much he doesn't know about her, though he can match her sense of adventure. Storm Chaser starts out with a bang which continues throughout the book. The attraction between Allie and Chance is fiery, but every time they have a moment to themselves to act on it, something always happens. They always seem to be on the front lines of something -- a fire, a crazy animal...the list goes on! There's a bit of an added mystery to the plot when someone keeps watching Allie, and I wasn't sure why. Chance annoyed me a time or two because of his outright distrust. Sure, people have a right to be cautious, but some of the things he thought Allie was doing got to be a bit outrageous! This is a great contemporary read. The characters are friendly and memorable. They all have their good moments and their quirks. The pacing is great, and I didn't find a part of the book that was too slow. It's an all around fun book. If you enjoy contemporary romance with featuring a hero and heroine with a flare of adventure, then get yourself a copy of Storm Chaser, and get blown away by the great story.

This 1926 novel of the Harlem Renaissance, written by a white, gay man, drew fire from the black community for its scandalous title. It's good, but a bit too polemical for my taste. His point is that there are rich blacks, intellectual blacks, jazz-players, poor blacks and gigolos all living side by side in Harlem. They are various and interesting people and not of one mind on any subject and we should really get to know them. His main characters are not fully realized to me. The bitter young college-educated Byron Kasson, who can't get a job any better than elevator operator, seems somewhat stilted and one dimensional. His priggish, long-suffering, librarian girlfriend is not much better. What I loved were the descriptions of Harlem life, the cabarets in all their tawdriness and the lavish parlours of the wealthy. The tragic ending seemed cheap and unnecessary. I think it could have been much more complex, but still very enjoyable.

I am reading this novel for about the fifth time, and each time is a new experience, as subtle bits of humor tickle me in new ways, and Forster's inimitable irony comes through even more clearly. What a great novel this is -- about love, stability, privilege, compassion, and the great importance of place, of home.

When I started this book, I thought it would be retarded. I was so wrong. Being addicted to the tv is the least of her problems and only a very minor part of this story. I felt very deeply for Dolores, even though I didn't always understand her motives. This story is about want and fear and the crazy person that lives inside of us. The thoughts that we never say.
i wish we could do half stars. i give this 3 1/2 stars. i'm not going to lie: this book freaked me out.

The last chapter makes it all worthwhile, but don't read it first. (The first chapter was a short story in "Come to Me," the author's short story collection. I'm not sure to what extent the last chapter would stand alone). If I were rating only the last chapter, I would give it 5/5 stars.
