Good story of family wealth, reputation, and the recklessness that takes all that away from the Ambersons. Don't think I need to read part 1 and 3 of this trilogy though.

Excellent characterisations, and a great twist at the end, which I didn't see coming. However I thought the plot was slightly weak, but another page turner all the same.

Although I've never known of a book with a similiar plot as this one, it seemed cheesy to me at first. Yet as I got further into it I loved it. It shows how human nature is human nature no matter what set of circumstances we may be under. At times it was funny and I felt very close to the characters.

In Brockmeier's slightly futuristic world, the dead aren't truly gone as long as one living person still remembers them. Unfortunately, a deadly and fast-spreading virus has been unleashed on earth and the population of both worlds is quickly shrinking until, finally, only one woman is left on earth. Laura Byrd is struggling for her own life on a research expedition in the Antarctic. Brockmeier tells us both stories - Laura's memories and the after-death "city" that is now populated solely by people she remembers. An interesting, but challenging, read.

I enjoyed this one as much as I thought I would. Dick taking up the mantle of the Bat made much more sense than Azrael doing so, and to read about his struggle with all that - being Batman, not being Robin, not-quite being Nightwing - was really interesting. His confrontation with Two-Face was a nice touch, but the best thing about this really is the ending, plus the talk between Dick and Bruce. I've really taken quite the liking to these characters. (This is an understatement.) Added after the 3rd read: Yes, this is trés melodramatic. Yes, the art is questionable at times. Yes, Dick has his ponytail. But despite all this, Prodigal remains one of my favorites. It's a must-read for everyone who likes Dick Grayson, and his dynamic with both Tim and Bruce are to die for.

Oh, Mr. Geoffrey Purvis, why do I love everything you teach? You are the latter day Richard II! Or at least, that's how you like to perceive yourself.

A sweet book about growing up and relationships. I knew before I read it that it was for a younger crowd, but this book has been known for a lot of controversy and is even banned in places. I think it broached the topic of sex in a simple way that didn't put a lot of pressure on the audience. I would have rated it higher if I had a read it when I was younger.

BOOK REVIEW GOOD PRACTICE IN CHILD CARE CASES- second edition Law Society Protocols by The Law Society A Guide for solicitors acting in public law Children Act proceedings Law Society Publishing ISBN: 978-1-85328-879-1 www.lawsociety.org.uk/bookshop THE OFFICIAL GUIDE TO BEST PRACTICE FOR ALL PARTIES An appreciation by Phillip Taylor MBE and Elizabeth Taylor of Richmond Green Chambers This is a much needed second edition of “Good Practice in Child Care Cases” which remains a great resource for less experienced practitioners and those who do not cover these issues on a very regular basis. The first two chapters set the landscape well for both procedural and practical issues containing much common sense. The book is primarily for solicitors so the remainder of the work is devoted to those lawyers working in local authorities, those instructed by children or children’s guardians, and those instructed by parents and other adult parties. The last part of the main book covers other important aspects of public law Children Act cases. All these titles in the ‘Protocols’ series from Law Society Publishing continue to produce a library collection of expert, specialist books just for us as legal practitioners and/or those acting for local authorities, parents or children and they greatly assist our understanding of how our processes should work at what ever level of practitioner expertise. And that is what we have here. The Law Society remit naturally focuses on both the practical aspects of our professional work and the requirements of the specialist legal areas. With “Good Practice in Child Care Cases” we have, in just under 200 pages with 6 chapters and 15 Appendices (plus index), a work for every level which has been thoroughly updated and revised as an official guide to best practice. We found the Appendices of great assistance with the detail provided covering Practice Directions, Notes and Guidance. Appendix 15 gives some highly useful website although readers should always be aware of the way in which the web can change at short notice! President of the Family Division, Sir Nicholas Wall, in his admirable Foreword, identifies the vital role solicitors play in ensuring that matters are dealt with justly and fairly, with the minimum of distress to the children and individuals involved- this supplement to 3rd edition of the Law Society’s Family Law Protocol gives the practical and welcome guidance in this sensitive, difficult and important field. This collection of concise good practice guidelines was drafted by the 13 members of the Law Society’s Children Law Sub-Committee together with the active and close involvement of the Association of Lawyers for Children and Resolution. In our view it sets a clear practice standard which most practitioners meet. And, as intended, it gives great assistance to members of the public and the judiciary as the official guide to best practice and, for that reason, is invaluable as an adviser and friend with these especially difficult court matters.

This is a "who dun it" and I couldn't figure out who did it. It jumped a bit too much between characters, kinda slow in spots but it was a real wonder all the time.
