In “The Washington Story,” Adam Langer has given us a world full of characters to cheer for-- to achieve their stated goals and dreams, to avoid pain and sorrow; and simultaneously he also presents them as hugely capable of frustrating us with actions that at first seem out of character, designed to drive them away from what we think will be their destiny, but slowly over the course of this novel, these situations turn out to reveal depths--in both senses--that only get hinted at early on. It’s quite a job that Adam does in having us experience the development of the main characters in the story--Jill, Michelle, Muley, Mel--and witness while they do both the gradual and dramatic and sudden turns their lives take. At the same time, there are myriad characters who when they first appear, a thought arrives that they can’t be that important to the story--perhaps they are comic relief, or red herring, but one of the gifts that Adam Langer possesses is to take a seemingly ancillary character, and have them grow on the page into something essential to the telling of the truest story. Through a deftly controlled, multi-layered series of interactions and divergences, we wind up caring--deeply--for what happens to these people--joyful at their successes, sorrowful at their setbacks, and wanting very much, as happens with all great works of fiction--to know what happens to them next. Adam Langer beautifully mixes humor, high and low, a natural ability to weave real history into his fictional world without overemphasizing it, and a knack for getting at the heart and essence of his characters with apparent ease, to create a world worth visiting and revisiting.

** spoiler alert ** Rowling REALLY fell down on the job with her final book:I liked the Battle of Hogwarts, but she added way too much information which was, rather, cliche. In fact, Voldemort's death made no sense: indeed, as I was reading, he was dead before I realized it! There was no life-or-death in which Harry just barely won by the skin of his teeth. The epilougue was okay, I liked how the Malfoys came to reconciled state with Harry.

Really enjoyed Lou's character.

I never read this book. I thought it would be both too gory and too shallow. Saw the movie much later. I still didn't care for it. Sort of a poor man's version of movie with Lauren Bacall and Humphrey Bogart and Robert Mitchum movie.

Well-written, depressing, almost too real. The last chapter, "Negocios" was my fave.

Based on a Harvard Business Review article, the concept was turned into a full-length book to capitalize on the article's popularity. The premise is interesting and intriguing to anyone who has had a nightmare work experience -- what impact (and cost) do ass-holes have in/on the work environment? It's a quick, easy read, but, ultimately, not very satisfying. There are lots of anecdotes of bad behavior, but no real solutions about how organizations and people should deal with these bad-mannered individuals. He starts to make an interesting point about quantifying how much bad people and their antics costs an organization, but then makes the argument that keeping an ass-hole around as an example of what not to do is good for business. Finally, the author underminds his own (weak) arguments by relating instances of when he has been a complete ass-hole -- with no statements of how he has tried to modify his own behavior. Ultimately, I couldn't help but think ass-holes are a product of the general breakdown of etiquette and manners and that if we, as a society, insisted that people be well-mannered, much of what we attribute to an inate "ass-holeness" wouldn't exist. Bottom-line: if you're interested in the topic, find a copy of the article and save the time and money you'd invest in the book.

**Spoiler Alert** I love the BDB series, but this book was my least fav so far. I found it hard to buy why Cormina loved Phury. They barely spoke to each other for 5 months, but Cormina knows him so well even though she knows hardly anything about him? She thinks he's a great warrior but never read his book at the Sanctuary, only known him since he's been an addict...I will say though that I'm glad Phury got his HEA. I liked the other storylines happening in this book. The author does a great job of switching between lines and weaving them together. It's what keeps me picking up the next one in the series.

This story is about how the tooth fairy became the tooth fairy. Believe it or not, the tooth fairy actually became the tooth fairy because she had problems with her dental hygiene. I would use this book when explaining the importance of dental hygiene especially on the day when the dentist visits the school.

I've only read the first 7 chapters, but this is a really good book. The characters are well developed. Descriptions of the environment make you feel like you are there. I'm anxious for the release date and expect this to be an excellent series.
