Dirty Little Angels by Chris Tusa Reviewed by Moirae the fates book reviews Set in the slums of New Orleans, among clusters of crack houses and abandoned buildings, Dirty Little Angels is the story of sixteen year old Hailey Trosclair. When the Trosclair family suffers a string of financial hardships and a miscarriage, Hailey finds herself looking to God to save her family. When her prayers go unanswered, Hailey puts her faith in Moses Watkins, a failed preacher and ex-con. Fascinated by Moses' lopsided view of religion, Hailey, and her brother Cyrus, begin spending time down at an abandoned bank that Moses plans to convert into a drive-through church. Gradually, though, Moses' twisted religious beliefs become increasingly more violent, and Hailey and Cyrus soon find themselves trapped in a world of danger and fear from which there may be no escape. (Synopsis provided by goodreads) I don't normally read books as dark as this one. (The darkest I get is usually horror, even then I have to be in the mood). While reading this book, I never thought it would have a happily ever after ending. There was a lot of violence in this book, for me the animal violence was hardest to read as I am a huge animal person. Aside from that, I liked the book. It's not for everyone by any means. The writing is good and the characters always felt real to me. Tusa isn't afraid of having flawed characters. I like it when a reader can easily find the flaws in a character it makes them more real. Tusa, doesn't have any Mary-sue characters which is a welcome relief! As dark as this book was, I found myself unable to stop reading. The descriptions are very vivid and realistic. Tusa is a promising new author and if you enjoy dark gritty stories you'll like this one, if a lot of violence, sex, and non-happy endings bother you, I would suggest you skip this one. Overall rating: ***1/2 3 ½ out of 5 stars Cover art: I found the cover art interesting it reflected the story well. Obtained: I won an e-copy of the book from the author via librarything. Thank you!

Cette série me tient beaucoup à coeur et arrive toujours à me toucher, même si les histoires de ce tome m'ont un peu déçu. Comme d'hab c'est l'histoire de Bee qui me plait le plus!

I'll say it again, I love Marcus Buckingham. He writes succinctly and intelligently about career success, about how to get the best work out of yourself and others, and how to build on the strengths you have and be a performer - exactly as the title would suggest.

Not mind-blowing or fully satisfying but engaging enough I couldn't put it down. Not one of my favorites, but very entertaining.

This story grew on me and I found myself very much enjoying it as it progressed. Although I'll have to admit, I had not expected the dead husband to take over the dog's body. That threw me off and my immediate reaction was "Seriously? You're kidding me right?". Well, since I had received it as a Goodreads First Read book, I decided to power through it and am happy I did. The story is endearing and I enjoyed the chapter switches from Emily's point of view to Einstein's point of view. There were definitely moments where I laughed reading about Einstein's antics and it was also a heartwarming look at the love between two people. Although Sandy Portman's (dead husband) character does bring up the frustration of why is it that some people just don't realize what they have until it's too late. Anyways, I'm digressing ... it's a good book and a fun read.

If this is the first place you ever hear of this play, I hope you read it anyway. I think it's important in understanding the different shadings of "feminism" that are proliferated in our culture. Wasserstein wrote very funny characters.
Strange but entertaining. Cannibals, a sky priestess, sorcerer, tranvestite, taking bats and ninjas...what more can you ask for. From Library Journal Here's a recipe for one very funny book: Take Tucker Case, a disgraced airline pilot whose unseemly in-flight behavior has destroyed his career (along with a pink Lear jet) and damaged what's politely called his manhood. Add Kimi, a Filipino transvestite navigator, and a talking fruit bat named Roberto and send the three off in a typhoon to an island in Micronesia (its inhabitants only a generation away from cannibalism) where dastardly deeds are being done by a greedy medical missionary and his beautiful but amoral wife. Toss in a dead World War II aviator who plays cards in heaven with a Jewish carpenter. Stir well. Read fast. Fans of Kurt Vonnegut and Douglas Adams will especially enjoy Moore's (Bloodsucking Fiends: A Love Story, LJ 8/95) peculiar take on the world.
