Weak plot- weak characters- strong reader to finish this! This book was a disappointment.

Little Miss Innocent I give 3 stars. It sort of dragged and I had a hard time keeping my attention.

I decided to read this book instead of City of Glass because it was thinner and I thought I could get through it quicker. I didn't expect to read it so fast! There was a lot of white space and the scenes were very short, which helped me to get into the mind of Janie, a girl who - whether awake or asleep - falls into the dreams of anyone around her who is sleeping, which breaks apart her consciousness much like the text. The story was exciting, although there was a point where I thought the character of Cabel, a boy who likes Janie and has extremely violent dreams, was going in a completely different direction. Was the ending wrapped up a bit too neatly (deus ex machina)? Sure, but it was a fun read. I'm not sure if I'm hooked enough to read Fade, but I liked this one. This is a book that is best for high school age teens due to the language (there are also some sexual situations, largely due to sexual dreams), and would also be great for reluctant readers due to the fast pace of the story.

Really great behind-the-scenes book. I loved the comments from the actors and crew about things that happened during filming, views on characters, etc. Also, the inserts are great. Things like Harry's Hogwarts letter, and wizard candy packaging are stuck into the book at various points. Out of those, I particularly love the Yule Ball invitation - it's so pretty and fancy I'm almost afraid to touch it!

Shepherd Blaine telepathically travels to other planets, working for a corporation called Fishhook. Fishhook has a monopoly on this means of travel, and thereby a monopoly on all the goods and information brought back to Earth. The general public fears and distrusts Fishhook, but still buys their products, and resents the hell out of the whole thing. Other paranormals, or "parries" not working for (and protected by) Fishhook are hunted and killed like witches in the 16th century. When Blaine encounters an alien consciousness and melds with it, he is forced to leave Fishhook and go on the run. Encountering parry hunters, reformers, and always one step ahead of Fishhook agents, he grapples with this new alien side of himself and what his new purpose is in life. Interestingly, the only other book by Simak I have read featured folks who telepathically traveled to the stars as well. I wonder if this is a common theme with him. Also similarly to that other book [A Choice of Gods], this novel is short on action and long on philosophical musings. The action parts are quite suspenseful and well written, which makes me wish there were more of them. The philosophy is thought-provoking, but largely moot, and relates only to this fictional society. It points out some interesting things about religion, fear, and the power of backlash, but ultimately, irrelevant. I also have a bone to pick with the cover. I don't think the illustrator even read the book because it contained no scene remotely like the man on a barren planet with a space suit, facing down a spherical alien craft. No one even bodily traveled to another world, or encountered any aliens in battle. It's terribly misleading. I don't mean to be overly critical, because I very much enjoyed reading it. I would recommend this more for people who like to muse about the great 'what ifs' and not for those who like a tight, action-packed space opera (which is what the cover implies).

For anyone who ever wondered what the hell David Byrne was warbling about, here's a book that...wonders the same thing. Dont expect tales of trashed hotels and knocked-up fifteen year olds...Talking Heads were nerds. Glorious Nerds.

Previously Published on my blog: Welcome to Larissa's Bookish Life *Contains SPOILERS for the previous books in the series. This is is, the culmination that every fan of the Elemental Assassin series, Gin’s chance to revenge the murder of her family and finally destroy Mab Monroe. Jennifer Estep has created quite an unique world with this series. not to mention making an Assassin the leading lady and getting us all to care for her. The world building is fantastic and the characters quite compelling, entertaining and impossible not to love. Spider’s evenge is the book we have all been waiting for and after the events of Tangled Threads, we can all guess how this story is going to end. However, it is the journey that makes it all worthwhile and Jennifer brings out the big guns for this one. After all, killing the baddest bitch on the blog van’t be a picnic at the park, can it? I have only a couple complaints about Spider’s Revenge. One is my usual one, the repetitive discourse throughout the novel. That utterly annoys me and can be quite frustrating. The other was that, since we knew that the Mab story Arc was coming to an end in this book, the surprise factor as to how it all ended was almost null. On the bright side, Team Owen fans will definitely be happy with book, as will Finn’s fans, I guarantee! Also, I quite liked how Spider’s Revenge ended, since the next novels will have a different Arc, the ending made me curious to see what’s to come. All in all, Spider’s wasn’t my favorite in the series, but it was a nice end to the first Arc in this series. I for one am hoping for many more Arcs to come. If you are a fan of the series, I totally recommend Spider’s Revenge. If you have yet to check out the series, give it a shot =)

Read it in high school and can barely remember it. I hope to re-read it again someday.
i read this book because i was touched by the movie with gwyneth paltrow and ethan hawke. i'm glad i saw the movie first because i would have been pissed at how much the movie sucks in comparison. the book is so emotional and beautiful and tragic, just how i like 'em. i cried a lot. i adore miss havisham. i think we are supposed to hate her but i think she rules. vengeful bitch! juicy. i think i will read this book a lot in my life.
