Camille Block camilleblock — You might think, given the format of this book (short fictional stories of modern women followed by short character studies of BIble women) that it's a light read or a shallow Bible study with no more depth than the latest novel. But in reality, Liz Curtis Higgs, the author, has studied these Bible women extensively, and her study is evident in the lessons found in this book. The fictional stories add a dimension to the women in the Bible that we thought we knew. The Bible studies offer insights and useful information about the times and cultures in which the women lived. She also asks probing questions that allow you to apply the lessons learned to your own life.

Jonathan Ortega _onathan_rtega — Started reading this out loud to a friend. I think we got through the first five stories the first night. I laughed so hard about the bit with the Stadium Pal, I cried. I have never really noticed that Sedaris has a great and varied vocabulary. (Or perhaps the rest of my reading world is getting a bit repetitive.) Ends with a long rendition of what it was like for David to quit smoking, and then lengths he went to. Funny, funny, funny. One of my favorite authors. Finished this one in the bathtub.

Dan Peach danielchasepeach726a — This is a book about two sisters who carry on a prophecy. they are turned against each other. one must find a way to bring the souls of samael (or satan whichever you prefer) into the world and the other must keep her from doing this. in other words one sister good the other evil. Lia- one of the sisters- narrates. it turns out that she is the one sister that can bring samael into this world and bring about the beginning of the apocalypse. this is the first book in a trilogy. one of my favorite reads so far this year.
