A bit dated, but very interesting nonetheless.

I was satisfied with the ending to the series. It deals with issues that surround the idea of revolutions. For example, does another brutal dictator replace the previous one or are people able to make the freedom that they fought for a lasting reality.

I read this book for my "YA of the 80's & 90's" challenge. I vividly remember reading this series in school, and not only do I remember reading the series, but I found a few penpals through the books as well. It's hysterical to read the book now as an adult, and there definitely some things I wanted to nickpick about the book (for example, all of the friends were so supportive & understanding off one of the girls when she decided to lie. 13 year old girls are not known to be understanding of anyone!) But the charm of the book just shines through, and I admit to laughing out loud, literally, on more than one occasion & sharing bits of the book with my coworkers (of my age group) who I knew would enjoy the flashbacks (for example, one of the characters dresses up as She-Ra for a costume party). This is a must read!

Enjoyed some of the stories more than others. Either way, "The Best American Series" is a new favorite.

I'm not sure whether to classify this as a mystery/thriller, action/adventure, sci-fi horror, historical fiction, or "pulp," which is what the author calls it. It features a cast of "real" characters -- people who actually existed -- the "pulp" writers of Dperession-era America (including a pre-scifi, pre-Dianetics L. Ron Hubbard) who band together to solve the mystery of their fried H.P. Lovecraft's mysterious death. It'n not great -- certainly no Kavalier and Clay -- but it's engaging and entertaining, lie watchingn a pretty good B-movie, and I found the descriptions of the 1930s pulp fiction (about which I know zip) interesting.

Just couldn't get into this book. The old-fashioned language/writing style seemed to get in the way of me getting to know the characters and understanding what what going on. Which is odd because I read a lot of classics. Hmm. Maybe it's me... Got about 1/3 through and I was still mixing everyone up and dreaded reading it every day, so I'm abandoning. For now.

I loved this book. The ideas that Stephanie Meyer based this book off of were genius!

I loved this book. I know some people can't get past the imagery, but it made me feel close to Jesus and God after reading. I would love to sit outside with Jesus and look up at the stars and talk to him.
