It's the American "Huck Finn" for the 20th Century. Sweet Home Chicago.

Apart from the fact that Kingy evidently seems to stoicly believe that the phrase "sharper than a serpent's tooth" originates from the Bible, to the point that he uses it not once, but twice in two different stories ("The Bible says that an ungrateful child is like a serpent’s tooth, but a nagging and ungrateful Wife is ever so much sharper than that." | "A bad boyfriend is sharper than a serpent’s tooth. I think the Bible says that.") and in a way that makes it almost impossible to believe that it's not only his characters that believe so so we may excuse it -- "no, the author's not at fault, he just wrote dumb characters on purpose" -- by using it in connection with the Bible in two stories independently from another, with not even the slightest mention of Shakespeare's King Lear, from where it originally came, if my information is correct and it's maybe not Kingy who is misinformed, but I -- ("How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is To have a thankless child!" King Lear Act 1, scene 4, 287–289) -- well, apart from that little mishap, these four stories are fine, suspenseful and well-written page-turners, even if I do seem to remember one or two similar phrases carrying over from one story to the next, almost as if he had them written down as "phrases to use", used them in one story, forgot about it, and re-used them in the next. But I'll stop bickering now. [First sentence turned out a little too long, I'm afraid. Apologies.]

Totally different perspective on the role of King Rama 9 (the world's current longest reigning monarch, of over 60 years) in modern Thai history than you get from any other literature. The book is illegal in Thailand, but a friend whose got a friend in the royal circles of Bangkok told me that all the royal family is now reading it...

I have read this book 3 times, two times in Farsi and once in English! It is one of those books I like to have them in my library and once in while take a look at it.

I really enjoyed this book. It is a romance with strong characters and a great story line. There are several twists and turns and there are deep emotional issues being worked through by each character.

Let's pretend your life revolves around music. Shouldn't be too hard. It's your religion, your ultimate seduction aid and occasional money provider. A good, no, GREAT, weekend involves flipping through stacks and stacks of records in someone's garage with your wife at your side. She drives you home, taking hairpin turns and fights with you over who gets to be Oates when She's Gone comes on the radio. There's years of this, there's fights, there's making up but mostly there's music. And of course, love. Love and music. What happens when something happens, something irreversible and that part of your life is gone? Love is a Mix Tape by Rob Sheffield is a memoir about just that: love, music and the five years he spent with his first wife, writer Renée Crist. I have to backtrack a bit here for the inevitable personal interjection. Back in the day, I bought a book called The Spin Alternative Record Guide... This is NOT Bridget Jones. While this is still sort of chick lit, it is much more thought provoking than the Bridget Jones novels, and Fielding never loses her characteristic wit while writing about a very serious subject.

Really cool. Wasn't sure what to expect but I ended up really enjoying reading the back story of how they got to the thesis of the seven daughters. I even liked the speculation on the lifes of the seven women that the book is about. I found it informative and entertaining. Just what I usually look for.
