I think the Bible says that.") and in a way that makes it almost impossible to believe that it's not only his characters that believe so so we may excuse it -- "no, the author's not at fault, he just wrote dumb characters on purpose" -- by using it in connection with the Bible in two stories independently from another, with not even the slightest mention of Shakespeare's King Lear, from where it originally came, if my information is correct and it's maybe not Kingy who is misinformed, but I -- ("How sharper than a serpent's tooth it is To have a thankless child!" King Lear Act 1, scene 4, 287–289) -- well, apart from that little mishap, these four stories are fine, suspenseful and well-written page-turners, even if I do seem to remember one or two similar phrases carrying over from one story to the next, almost as if he had them written down as "phrases to use", used them in one story, forgot about it, and re-used them in the next.
