This story was really sweet. It makes you wish you could really have one more day with those lost loved ones.

Steinbeck is one of my favorite authors of all time. His books often get a bad rap for being depressing, but he manages to portray horrific situations in an astoundingly optimistic light. Read it. You won't regret it.

The movie cannot even begin to do it justice. Amazingly complex plot, but not confusing.

Honestly, I think it takes a lot more courage to be an atheist than it does to be religious. As Sam Harris writes, "once you stop swaddling the reality of the world's suffering in religious fantasies, you will feel in your bones just how precious life is- and, indeed, how unfortunate it is that millions of human beings suffer the most harrowing abridgments of their happiness for no reason at all." And this quote rang more true to me than anything I've read in a long time. Once you realize the nothingness of not existing, the true, scientific finality of death, it is only then when you understand the miracle and beauty of life. Understanding this also provides one with a sense of humbleness that though religion might preach, its followers will never know. How can you consider yourself a humble human being when you think there is a man in the sky who takes an interest in you, approves of you, loves you, and will reward YOU after death? Though I've read a lot of religious and non religious books (and yes - I've read the Bible), I thought that Sam Harris did a better job than say, Richard Dawkins in keeping the 'snark' out of his arguments. He also had some very good comparisons and analogies. His argument for stem cell research was a powerful one: a three day old human embryo, aka: blastocyst, has 150 cells, while the brain of a fly has more than 100,000 and if you think that the blastocyst has a soul, then you should consider that 50% of all conceptions end in spontaneous abortion usually without the woman even realizing it, and 20% of all recognized pregnancies end in miscarriage - which would "make God the most prolific abortionist of all time." The book is full of these little gems and is well worth reading. My biggest problem with it is that those who should read it won't.

I love Calvin and Hobbes. I was an only child and had a huge imagination and a bit of an evil streak just like him.

Our 21st century Kennedy assassination, with the added horror that thousands died instead of just one. The most amazing thing about the history of 9/11 as we know it today is that the terrorists were not using box cutters. They were using real guns and knives, because that's how easy it was to smuggle super-dangerous things onto planes at that time. The whole box cutter thing was a PR cover-up by the airlines. Rough reading, but pretty hard to be an American without it.

Wow, what an interesting read - I learned so much about the history of medicines and was drawn along with the many mysteries of this tale. The author brought tears to my eyes, while sharing the joys and trials of life, and even ended it happily. Definitely recommend!
