Tan Pooi _udrey_an — Two young basketball stars are found dead in a small town. One of the persons turns out to have been from the small town. The deaths are ruled a murder-suicide, and accepted by most. Two people in the town however aren't so sure. Sheriff Harding Williams and local reporter Bradley Gifford feel perhaps it was instead a double murder. The bond between these two characters, with its foundation in the past, grows and deepens as they slowly piece together what led to the deaths of these two young stars. I was intrigued to read this book after reading the back cover. Unfortunately however I did not enjoy the book as much as I had hoped. At times I found it difficult to distinguish which character was speaking. Parts of the dialog came across as being melodramatic. The development and descriptions of the characters was done well. Charo Espinosa jungla — this series is like literary crack. it doesn't take long, it's really fun, and afterwards I feel a little guilty for having completed it. basically, this is a modern noir series where the protagonist is a vampire in new york city. this is several things I love in one book. deals with vampirism as a disease, politics of multiple vampire gangs that run manhattan, preventing the backlash of the general public finding out that vampires are real, etc. it's not rocket surgery, but I love it just the same.

Shawn Sharpe shawnsharpe — Steinbeck is one of my favorite authors of all time. His books often get a bad rap for being depressing, but he manages to portray horrific situations in an astoundingly optimistic light. Read it. You won't regret it.

Mohammed Zubair amzubair — The premise is very interesting...a clash between the old world gods and their counterparts in the west who have been forgotten as society has modernized. The description of the way gods and people are in this world -- that people can see only the stage, but gods see everything, stage, backstage, etc.-- I found to be poetic and one of the best analogies out there. But I felt that with such an amazing premise, the book just didn't deliver to it's potential. In fact, I felt the ending was a bit anti-climactic. A good read for those who like to philosophize.
