I like the Jack Reacher character so I always look for the next book in the series. Nothing to Lose is definitely not the best in the series but if you liked Killing Floor then you will probably enjoy this as a very easy and enjoyable read. The author may be coasting a bit but i'm not complaining.

Transmetropolitan takes place the silly, gritty, Cyber Punk world of 'The City.' Our hero is named Spider Israel and he is clearly heavily based on Hunter S. Thompson. After making his bones as a Gonzo journalist, Spider gets signed to a two-book contract. He takes his advance, buys a place in on 'The Mountain' and spends the next couple years keeping himself drugged out of his mind and armed to the teeth. The book opens: his publisher (who Spider affectionately refers to as 'Whorehopper') calls him up, demanding the two books that they paid him for years ago. Spider (still drugged out of his mind and armed to the teeth) is forced off the Mountain and back into the City or else be slapped with law suits. And its even more awesome than that sounds.

Short but solid apologetic for christian anarchism.

This one was pretty good. It was something different. The hero is a warrior sent to save innocents from demons. He has a silver arm band that turns into a snake/sword. That was a different twist on the story.
This book was of interest to me since I've immersed myself for the past few years in novels and biographies of this period. I especially enjoyed the Mitford's and this book was about young people in London Society in the 1920s. However, I didn't enjoy the author's writing style and couldn't help feeling that I was reading a dissertation. Sometimes it seemed a bit dry and scholarly which didn't really fit the subject matter for me somehow. I'm currently reading Vile Bodies by Evelyn Waugh which is referenced throughout this book. And to be fair to this author, this novel reflects an inane and superficial group of young people which may have annoyed Mr. Taylor the same way it irritated me.

Overall an uneven read, I kept wondering if I was just distracted but even when I was reading quite a bit at once it was choppy. There were some funny parts but the review I'd read that convinced me to read it described it as a hoot hence that's what I expected. Perhaps it needed a heavier handed editor.

Let's fix Jon Stewart's cover blurb. Here's what he said, "If War and Peace had a baby with The Breakfast Club and then left the baby to be raised by wolves, this book would be the result." Here's what he should have said, "If Artemis Fowl had a baby with Diary of a Wimpy Kid and then left the baby to be raised by the Dursleys, this book would be the result." Five stars of funny. One of my favorite bits: when Oliver defines Machiavelli as "An Italian who wrote an early self-help book."

Mayıs 1996'da Everest'teki trajik olaylar hakkında orada bulunan ve hayatta kalan rehberlerden biri tarafından çok ilginç bir okuma. Jon Krakauer tarafından Into Thin Air'i zaten okuduysanız bu kitabı okumanızı şiddetle tavsiye ederim.
