Absolutely brilliant. I'll read the other volumes as soon as they hit eBook. Like all good history and biography this book reads like literature.

I read Fumi Yoshinaga´s yaoi manga and I liked them. When I learn, that there is non yaoi work as well I had to read it. I was caught by the unique setting and tender story of love in the environment, where the traditional male and female roles are swapped. Tokugawa Japan was plagued with strange disease caller red pox, which was killing males and soon male was rare in all female society. Females slipped in to the male roles and males were kept for breeding purposes. Little jewels in a way. Ooku is the inner chamber in shogun palace, which was filled with beautiful women, but in this manga with the men ready to serve shogun...but this time it was female shogun. It was very romantic manga, which used the historic background only to swap gender of the characters and put it in to the tender love story of shogun and her male concubine. The intrigues, murders and over all harem jabbering is ensured :)

Clever, contemporary, clean dialogue. Well, take back the latter adjective. I mean crisp, well delivered, punchy dialogue, delivered by real people. Great punch...and great punch line! Read it! You'll laugh...in a good way ;D

It made my cry. It's very provocative. You will sympathize with the main character, and often hate everyone else. But all in all it's a good and real book. Real emotions and all that.

there are some great stories in here, and some less great but a really good collection and a chance to sample some writers I meant to get around to.

From the title, I thought this book would be about people with money and power. However, the book could be more appropriately named the power of money. Ellul first explores wealth in the Old Testament. He examines instances when God used wealth as a reward or blessing, emphasizing that the riches were a gift and a material demonstration of God’s power. Ellul then elaborates on how Jesus completely transforms our relationship to money, especially as He becomes the “Poor One”. Why are the poor amongst us? How must we relate to them? Ellul’s final conclusions are challenging—that Christians should not be in the practice of saving or hoarding, and that everything beyond what they need should be given away. This practice allows one to be freed from serving Mammon (the system of selling and buying) and to “enter” the kingdom of God, where grace and giving reign.

I heard mixed reviews but it's rare to get a decent history book from Afghanistan so this will be worth a read.

Imagine if you will, that today you were to open up a book called "world war z", and that this book was represented as a factual recounting of the events of the Zombie War, which took place roughly twenty years before you opened up the book. That is the premise of Mx Brooks' "World War Z". In the book, the author presents it as a documentary of sorts, as he goes about interviewing many different people and recording their stories of survival, or their roles in the grand scheme of the outbreak/war. From politicians on both sides of the moral fence, to scoundrel con-artists who duped the globe into buying massive stock in his placebo zombie-cure, to clebrities held up in mansion strong holds {which, this part, is quite humerous given it's tongue-in-cheek pseudo refferences to popular icons of the Hollywood scene). It truly is a magnificent book, and a breath of fresh air; like something that hasn't been attempted before. T present something as ludicrous as a zombie war, and write it out in a way that comes off as so realistic that it almost convinces you that the war really occured. The main character isn't the people or the zombies, but the overall war itself. Meeting each new person who tells you their own side of the war, is the best part of the novel. The interesting array of personalities you coem across will have you either cheering along with them, booing at them, or fighting for survival at the very same time as they are. Max Brook's "Zombie survival guide" may have been a solid humor book, but this book is definetaly the work of mature horror fiction. And don't worry, the book doesn't spend too much time divulging in literary gore. It's linchpin however is the suspense while listening to the tales of surviviors. A phenomenal read. I truly did enjoy this book.
