Such a courageous woman with big hopes for Afghanistan and its people! In the midst of the abuse of power in her country, Malalai Joya risks her life by speaking out for her people. Just amazing how at the age of 25, she helped establish an orphanage and a medical clinic for the poor and disenfranchised. Then, Joya further went on to get involved in the politics in order to expose some of the conditions of MP. This book exposed the conditions of Afghanistan, especially the government festering with fundamentalists and extremists. The horrible situations and injustices facing the weak, women, and children. The misuse of their religion, Islam, to reinforce such abuse and terrorize ordinary people. The unspeakable things done by the developed countries and surrounding countries to maintain control of and exploit Afghanistan. Joya states that "no nation can donate liberation to another nation" (pg.5). I'm so glad that I read this book.

Irreplaceable is a very well written book about about a family who has a member gives her organs after an accidental death. There is so much more to the book than that and more to it than the description provides. The reader gets glances in at what the family members feel when such a thing happens, what the feelings of the organ recipient and her family are, even what the feelings of the person who was involved with the accident are. I felt there was something missing somewhere for me and I still can't figure out just what it was. There were some parts that felt a little long-winded and probably could have been a little more attention grabbing, if you will. In the end, I had a lot to think about- Irreplaceable poses questions that I never really thought about before- not to such an extent anyway.

This book was boring. It was predictable and I really wasn't crazy about the writing. For example, the main character is supposed to be beautiful. Well, in every other sentence the author wrote how pretty she was, she is so stunning, she is so gorgeous, she created car accidents because of her beauty....OK I GET IT SHE IS BEAUTIFUL. It was a bit ridiculous!

My students and I really like this book!! It has basic information about the frog, how it hides from the predators, what frog eats, and when it sleeps. Beautiful real photographs compliment the story and make it more as an adventure into the world of Red-eyed frog.

Meh. It had it's moments, but the author self-conaciously apes Hemingway's style at times. Have I mentioned how much I hate Hemingway? It drivea me up the wall to hear his female characters promise "I'll try to be good" in the face of whatever abuse his macho protagonists dish out. It's ten times worse hearing that echoed by a female character written by a woman. To be fair, it moved along at a good clip, but ultimately, it left me cold.
