Pexcil Graphicstore pexkung — I just picked up this book from our school library to see how I can be more assertive with my french tutor trying to impose his preconditioned ideas about teaching the language. Being a language teacher myself and having ideas on how to learn a language best,and on top of that knowing myself and my learning strategies;I need just a little more assertiveness to let him know that it should be me telling him how I learn best and not him telling me! As I was looking at the date it was published I realized as an iranian growing up in Iran I had all sorts of people manupulating me and I just had no means or resouces to figure this out let alone fight with it. Then I thought the problem this book is addressing must have been a problem for so many americans at the time. The proof to that can be the badge of "bestseller" on the cover. Then I thought how lucky I am that have access to this training course just because I did not stay in Iran and traveled to a modern world. I think many iranians, especially Iranian girls need to learn how to be more assertive and know how to put an stop to people manupulating them from childhood onward.

Pekka Front pekkafront — I really like Nick Hornby and I like music, which is why this felt like the perfect book to read. He takes us through 31 Songs/Albums/etc that he wants to ponder about. While it's not a page-turner or an opus work, it's something different. It's a good read, a fun meditation on music. And, like me, even as you read him writing about bands you've never heard of (and probably never will hunt down), you'll probably start taking a trip down memory lane and your own music collection. And that, in itself, is priceless.

Marcio Ballad marcioballad — Meh. It had it's moments, but the author self-conaciously apes Hemingway's style at times. Have I mentioned how much I hate Hemingway? It drivea me up the wall to hear his female characters promise "I'll try to be good" in the face of whatever abuse his macho protagonists dish out. It's ten times worse hearing that echoed by a female character written by a woman. To be fair, it moved along at a good clip, but ultimately, it left me cold.

Branden Gil tuminater12 — Funny, amusing, and a very fast read. I really enjoyed it.

Ric Bixter ricbixter — When I picked up this book, quite frankly, I was scared. I'd read quite a few Stephen King books, and only one had been a dissapointment, but this one, because of a review on the back of the book, frightened me. I saw that Nicholas Sparks liked it. Great. Probably a romance. Before I gagged myself, I decided to read it found it very enjoyable. A great story about the love between a husband and wife, and the strange, and sometimes very scary things that they had to deal with. There are parts where it moves very slow, but almost always good. Not for everyone obviously, but still, great book.
