Lewis,C.S(1955).The Magician's Nephew.New York City,NY:Sholastic Inc.(202pgs.) The book I read for this book review was, The Magician's Nephew which was written by C.S. Lewis. Have you ever had an adventure full of excitement? Well Digory is a boy who lives in London by a girl named Polly. During the story these two characters become good friends after time fly's by. I personally think that C.S.Lewis did a wonderful job on writing this book because of all the adventure, excitment and don't forget the vocabulary. The entire adventure begins when Digory's Uncle Andrew thinks that he is a magical magician and he sends Digory and Polly to a place unknown. And that unknown placce is Narnia which is a place full of talkling beasts, witches, lions, mice, and plenty more fantasy creatures. After time passes and Digory and Polly are still trying to figure out where they are and how to get back they meet a witch/queen who is nothing but white. They soon figure out that she is wicked and wants to rule their home town London and when they find the green rings on their fingers they try to transport back home and the witch/queen takes hold of Digory"s leg which leads her to their home town.... This book was ok if you're into fantasy creatures and great adventures I would recommened this book to you. I would have too say that the genre of this book is fantasy because of all the fake creatures and talking animals going around in the story but in a way the people are realistic. I had to keep reading this book and I actually just finished the series the first week of summer break. Yes it is a series and a series of seven books which have movies to watch.

Siliniş - Tess Gerritsen TrendKitaplar Kütüphanesi

This book knocked me on my ass. The book is compromised of three novellas each covering 24-hour period in Patrick Melrose's life. The first, Never Mind, takes place in France and a group of adults is getting ready for a gathering at his parent's home. As in all of the volumes, very few of the characters have any noticeably redeeming qualities. They are upper-class snobs who have a gift in exchanging witty barbs. The most horrific character is Patrick Melrose's father, David, who is quite possibly one of the more hideous characters I have ever encountered in literature. In one incident, he asks his wife to get on all fours in front of guests and eat figs off the ground. This is after she states it is sad to see the figs go to waste. And annoyed with son's behavior, he decides to rape him. In the second novella, Bad News, Patrick, now a full-blown heroin and coke addict, goes to New York to collect his father's ashes. This is 24-hours of a cycle where Patrick ingests drugs and contemplates not ingesting anymore. "How could he ever hope to give up drugs? They filled him with such intense emotion." It is funny, agonizing, and at times difficult to read. The final novella, Some Hope, takes place eight years later and back in England, Patrick has kicked the drug habit. He is still moving in upper-crust social circles and in this novel is getting ready to attend a fete where Princess Margaret will be making an appearance. Also, he reveals to his friend, Johnny, also a recovered addict, that he was raped by his father at the age of five. The party scene is this one gets a bit boring and I think this might be the weakest part of the book, but not without merit. The revelation to Johnny in a high-end restaurant is beautifully crafted and again, amusing. And Johnny's Narcotics Anonymous meeting is fantastic. Sadly, this work was inspired by events in the author's own life. Yes, his father raped him and he was a heroin addict in his 20's. However, St. Aubyn's prose is fiercely funny, full of wit, and sadness. He is an exquisite craftsman. "Edward St. Aubyn's triology combines the ferocious wit of the best English comedy with the terror and pity of Greek tragedy. It is a stunning accomplishment." - James Lasdun

With this novel you get two stories for the price of one. First there is the story of Nagash's descent into entanglement with dark sorcery and his rise to rulership of the kingdom of Khemri. Then there is the story of a war between Nagash as king of Khemri and several of his rival kings. Unfortunately these two stories are intertwined in such a way that it can be confusing, especially since many characters are involved in both storylines, you have to keep careful track of which storyline is being advanced in any given chapter. Lee has, however, done an excellent job with the entire novel. His portrayal of the most famous Necromancer in the Warhammer world is suitably chilling, especially since it is clear right from the start that Nagash is cold, calculating and completely ruthless right from the start. Like almost all Warhammer novels, the book is action-heavy, and the battle sequences are very realistic, with all the gory details left in. However this does not get in the way of some very rich characterisation. Of course Lee ensures that Nagash's character is well illustrated, but he also handles many of the other characters well, giving enough detail to flesh them out into 'real' people (as opposed to paper thin archetype characters) without expending inordinate time on useless details. Also Lee does well at conveying a surprising amount of detail about the generalities of Nehekheran society in comparatively short space (although anyone with even a passing familiarity with Egyptology will recognise that a lot of the names, social structures and other background details have been shamelessly stolen from historical Egypt). All in all an excellent addition to what is rapidly becoming one of the better series to emerge from the Games Workshop franchise.

Antrenman Bilgisi Ve Sporcu Sağlığı - Onur Oral TrendKitaplar Kütüphanesi

I picked this up because I'd received an advance copy of the sequel, and I thought I should start the series at the beginning. I really, really wish I hadn't found the gilt edged pages and die cut cover so appealing. The book just looked so pretty I wanted to give it a chance, even though I had to force myself to make it through the first chapter. The best thing I can say about ghostgirl is that it's a gorgeous physical object. But despite the fun little chapter headings and page decorations, the pretty endpapers and attractive cover sizing, this book was almost impossible to finish because Hurley made it so hard for me to like any of her characters. Charlotte, the ghostgirl of the title, is a classic example of a negative teenage stereotype: whiny, self-absorbed, and shallow. Which wouldn't bother me too much, if Hurley did something to subvert the stereotype or add to it in a creative way, maybe even use it to comment on negative teen stereotypes. She does none of those. Charlotte is still an annoying, selfish, cut-out of a character at the end of the novel, despite the plot's climax that's meant to show how she's changed. Also, I couldn't help thinking that if this were a book about a guy character who followed a girl character around the way Charlotte follows her crush Damen it wouldn't have gotten reviews calling it cute. I thought it was more than a little creepy how stalkerish Charlotte got once she could follow her crush unobserved. Mostly, this book, from the characters to the plot to the overabundant pop culture references, annoyed me from beginning to end. Totally not worth the time.
