The character of Pippa Lee, in her many incarnations, is a wondrous specimen of a woman. It's far too easy to say "she overcame obstacles, blah, blah, blah..." It's much more than that when it comes to Pippa. She runs straight into the fire over and over, each time emerging more and more in touch with her own humanity. I fell in love with Pippa - her curiosity at a young age, her desperation during her young adulthood, and most of all her middle-aged incongruity. She knows how to laugh at herself without succumbing to self-hatred or self-importance. After all, it's just life, right? She'll always have another chance to be reborn...but in this designated lifetime it's astonishing what she learns from the moments within the moments, the in between places that most people miss because they're too busy moving on to the next thing. At the same time, Miss Pippa Lee never stops too long at any one give place, always acknowledging the gap between her head and her heart.

After reading accounts of Sartre's highly unpleasant experiences with the then-infant compound LSD, this book made more sense on the whole, though taken as an independent perspective of one man's interior world (and a fictional world at that, severed from the corresponding reality of the author) I found it illuminating and full of abstract though vivid imagery. I read it in conjunction with a class on Existentialism while living in Copenhagen, so the atmosphere provided certain nuances to the experience of reading the book, I'm sure. I'm torn on Sartre's conclusion - is the impending 'invasion' of the vines and other converging plantlife about the town a cause for fear or celebtation, or neither, and instead the breaking point at which freedom from futility is fully realized?

Kolaborasi yang terjadi kok terasa "mentah" ya. Mendingan ia menulis sendiri. Karakternya mungkin bisa lebih dapat. Tak ada rasa yg tersisa usai membacanya kecuali: ok, masih profan :)

I wanted to hate this book, but fell in love with it. You really feel the author's pain, and makes you realize that rape can happen to anyone anywhere.

I enjoyed this book and the author's writing style but I definitely did not end up like Frank Lloyd Wright at all.

Ages 10+. Book 1 of a series of young adult fantasy fiction, Nicholas Flamel is the titular main character but in reality it is the twins Sophie and Josh who are the focus of the story. Flamel, though present, remains a bit of a mystery through the first book and at times his motives are unclear. This was a big hit with my 11 year old daughter and I enjoyed it quite a bit as well. We're both waiting for the library to deliver books 2 and 3 to us.

It was really quite an original idea for a novella. As always, I loved John Green's writing style. The zombies in this story are actually cannibalistic corn evangelists, which made them somewhat comical. I am really glad John decided to put this on the internet for us even though he doesn't think very highly of it. The cover is misleading; it has every thing to do with corn and nothing to do with unicorns.

The date of publication given here must be for this particular printing or this particular publisher, because I first read this book in the early to mid-80s. This is the first of the books CSY wrote about her vampire, whom she based on the real but very mysterious historical figure, le Comte de Saint-Germain. This vampire is not a blood-sucking ghost, but a very human (though undead) man searching for and finally finding the love of his very long life, a debutante named Madelaine, who has come to Paris to be presented to society by her aunt. Unfortunately for the happy couple, her father has promised her as a sacrifice to his fellow devil-worshipers. Though he recants his promise, the cult still considers that Madelaine belongs to them, and it is up to Saint-Germain to rescue her. Yarbro demonstrates an ability to bring the culture of pre-Revolutionary France to life so that even a person who is not interested in the historical aspects of the story cannot help fascination with the differences between then and now.
