An unevocative retelling of Henry VIII’s doomed marriages to Anne of Cleves and Katherine Howard. First, I should note that this book contains a lot of paragraphs of the following structure: “Could this book really be so overwritten? I couldn’t believe that this book was so overwritten. It was overwritten and yet I didn’t know why. Why was it so overwritten?” No, really. I’m not exaggerating. I wanted to attack the thing with a red pen. I realize that the trend is for historical novels to be sweeping and epic, but unfortunately, the rather slight plot of The Boleyn Inheritance did not warrant its 200,000-word heft. The three protagonists (including Anne Boleyn’s sister-in-law, Jane), each describing the events from their own POV, led to a huge amount of repetition – even apart from Gregory’s above-noted love of hammering home her points. Gregory is clearly not a skilled writer. The number of run-on sentences included in the novel demonstrates that quite obviously, but there’s also just not a lot to find interesting in the way that the story is told. The writing is so solipsistic that it squanders the potential of its setting, rarely bothering to describe the beauty and strangeness of Tudor Britain. In conclusion: dull.

Mary Renault's trilogy on Alexander the Great is unforgettable. Great storytelling, and without quite realizing it you learn quite a bit of history. She really brings him to life.

This book is a life-changing experience. I'll read it again. The title is somewhat deceptive. This is not a book about happiness, this is a book about how the mind works: how much better and faster we heal than we ever anticipate; how we "cook" our memories to suit our preferences; how our psychological immune system defends our sanity; how "presentism" colors our view of the past and our expectation of the future; how we use context, frequency and recency to "disambiguate" our experiences and then also allow them to distort the facts; how carefully elaborated myths (some of them necessary for sanity or even survival) almost always take precedence in our choices over reason, facts and experience. And the language is so special, it is a real pleasure. Humorous anecdotes and witticisms drip from every page and the style and vocabulary are *alive* (if this guy ever writes a novel, it'll be an instant classic). The suspense is rekindled with subtitles that make you want to read on all the time, such as: Journey to Elsewhen The Joy of Next Dancing about Architecture New Yeller In the Blind Spot of the Mind's Eye The Meat Loaf of Oz An Embarrassment of Tomorrows The Hound of Silence The Way We Weren't Reporting Live from Tomorrow &c Here is a quote from the foreword (and the note it refers to): "[I:]f your future self is not satisfied when it arrives at the last page [of this book:], it will at least understand why you mistakenly thought it would be. *note 1*" Note 1 reads: "…If you don't care about sources …and are annoyed by books that make you flip back and forth all the time, then be assured that the only important note in the book is this one."

This is a diet book in graphic novel format, showing her trials, backstory, and eventual success of dieting and living healthy. The overall message of this book is nothing new to dieters: count/journal what you eat and exercise. But the author also touches on emotional eating (my prob) and becoming dedicated to the process and being willing to make a total lifestyle change for lasting results. And some of the drawings are pretty funny too!

This book didn't change my life. I could put this book down, and I did. It took me a few months to read this book but that doesn't mean it's not an excellent book. Card does a great job of making you feel like you are truly present. Every chapter I just thought to myself "this would be a great movie" Luckily, there is a film in production of Ender's game. I would recommend this book to anyone that wants to read a good sci-fi book. The story is great.

I really liked Crime and Punishment, but this book drove me nuts. The writing was alright, but I couldn't get into any of the characters. Couldn't finish it.

writing style: 5/5 story line: 4.5/5 characters: 4/5 I have read quite a few of Crichton's sci-fi novels, but this book is much different. For one it's not sci-fi. Also, the characters are a little more fleshed out; more real seeming (unlike a sci-fi novel where the characters are relatively un-important). This is the story of a group of pirates (they call themselves Privateers) trying to steal a ship full of treasure from Matancerose(I probably didn't spell that right), a heavily armored island. in their journey they encounter several seemingly fatal mishaps, but they make it back to Port Royal in the end and... well, I'm not going to spoil the story, just go read it! Overall, Thumbs up.

Was good, it starts off in a mental place where all us mothers have been- we need a break. The end had a twist that I didn't see coming.

I read this shortly before taking my sister and cousin to see the movie. It's ok. The movie had a single redeeming quality...Eric Idle.
