Wonderful. I just love this manga. It isn't all that exciting, there are no big fights or anything like that, it's more of a string of emotions, an atmospheric piece, it feels so quiet and intimate, taking place in Yuko's shop, with just a handful of characters. I adore the friendship between Watanuki and Domeki. The last part of this volume, Watanuki's birthday gift to Domeki, was amazing!

There's something distinctly beautiful about a writer who can change their style of writing as their character's foundation and views change in the novel. Anthem was very well written. The characterization was very evident and good. The story was strong, yet a bit predictable, but I still enjoyed reading it.

I think this is a good story, which is presumably why one reads works of fiction. The book is obviously influenced and perhaps based on older works of fiction, most recognizably Jane Eyre but perhaps with strong shades of the fantastically improbable of Wilkie Collins's works. Readers who generally only like modern literature may find themselves wishing for a faster-paced narration and I think even the most generous soul may find themselves wishing that the main narrator, Margaret, would seek therapy and move on with her life. The ending is perhaps a bit weak and if one chooses to, one can find several holes in the final wrap-up, but sometimes a story is simply a story......

This was actually very good. Been a long time since I have read a horror. My only problem with the book is that some parts they did not seperate some of the scenes. Had to go back and re read a couple of times to realize that they had changed scenes/characters.
