I tried really hard to like this book, I really did. The premise was intriguing, what would the world be like if the "blaks" had enslaved the "whytes" instead of the other way around. However, what was delivered didn't live up to the billing.

I'll admit I'm a sucker for etiquette books with nice covers. The power blue cover on fine stock paper made me associate this book to getting something from Tiffany's. I was giddy to open it up and see what was in store. That's considering I don't even like diamonds or care for Tiffany's. This little tome's pearls of wisdom imparted to the reader provides how to segue into a graceful conversation as well as depart the conversation with style and grace. It pretty much reminds you that to be an artful conversationalist, you have to navigate it out of those murky waters of, "ums, and so...what's up?" The crowning jewel of conversation savers for me is the advice on how to graciously exit a conversation that has gone on too long: "I told my daughter I'd be home by ten."

I LOVE THIS BOOK. I'd have to say it is in there with my top favorites. Its a fantasy novel about a kid who searches through a parallel world where all stories ever told are held to find the root to his father's 'writer's block'. It deals with father/son relationships, independence, fighting against internal and societal censorship, etc. It is a great book that can be enjoyed by all ages. One I've read to children who enjoy being read 'chapter books'. It has many fascinating characters that children love and a lot of adventure. A must read.

It was awesome. It was a science fiction book about an alien hunter named Daniel X. It's a wonderful mix of Spider-Man and men in Black. Daniel is going after an alien who's a drug lord and mass murderer. It was a thriller. The bad part was they never really described Daniel. Overall, it was a great book. Check it out at your local library.

Equally entertaining and informative, The Greatest Show on Earth is an absolute blast to read. Dawkins' no-quarter attitude towards the unthinking creationist masses is brightly on display here with his witty comments and tongue-in-cheek statements finding their way onto the page throughout the book as he attempts to explain the frank and factual nature of evolution and the undeniable role it has played in life on our planet. I found his sense of humor much to my liking to say the least, but this is not a funny book. It is full of great examples, information, and insights. I could see this book being of benefit to any and everyone who picked it up.

Hey. Come here. Got a secret for you. Don't let your tenth grade English teacher know I told you this, but this is a horrible book. I know, I know, it's a 'new classic' or something... but it's just bad. Subject matter aside (ok, not aside; in parentheses. If you need this literary beating to show you that colonialism can result in the destruction of indigenous cultures, well, you deserve it) the writing in this book is appalling. It lacks subtlety, tact, imagination, or any respect for the intelligence of the reader. Seriously, it's borderline insulting.

Probably not for the very Christian, but for those of us recovering from Catholicism enough bible to have a sense of truthiness and enough humor to smile at. Not laugh out loud funny for me, but a fun, funny, look at the possibilities of Jesus (Josh) from his birth through the less mentioned parts of his childhood. I look forward to other Chris Moore books.

The British Isles is the setting for this beginning book of Ross Lawhead's new "Ancient Earth Trilogy." Freya and Daniel haven't had much contact with each other for the last few years, but circumstances have conspired to bring them together to fight evil once again. While Freya doesn't really want to get involved again, Daniel has been fighting all along. As they awaken two sleeping knights, Freya finds she can't say no and they all travel to Nidergeard. There is much for them to learn. At the same time, evil, unearthly creatures are showing up all over the place seemingly stalking Daniel and Freya. Why? What is the importance of these two young people? With the help of the knights and a policeman named Alex Simpson, Freya and Daniel work to free the world of the menace. Will they be able to save the world from this evil enemy? I really enjoyed this book and found that the story line and character development were very good. It is very involved in spots, but that makes the story more alive. The mythology helped fill out the story. The heroes and villains are very believable and I found myself wanting to yell warnings to the characters sometimes. I received my free copy from the Book Sneeze program and thank them so much. I can't wait for the next book!
