Jed Grant jedgrant — Reviewed by Lauren Ashley for TeensReadToo.com Scotty was sent away to Stillwater, a boarding school for boys, so that his mom could spend more time on her book and focus on speaking about the sex lives of others. Scotty just wants to have a normal family: a mom who cares about him, a dad who isn't changing every few years, and maybe even a sibling or two. However, he's stuck with knowing that all of the boys at his school fantasize about his mother - and might even be able to see her nude, if she goes ahead with her photoshoot plans. Though he might not have a family to rely on, Scotty can always turn to Jerry from The Grateful Dead in times of need. On Parent's Weekend, Scotty finds himself forced into a car with a gun by his roommate, Todd, and they are off to the Freedom show! FREAKED has a really good premise and I definitely enjoyed the characters. Music plays a main part in this novel, as it gives Scotty an outlet, along with drugs, to truly feel and express his emotions. Most of the story is Scotty's past memories and thoughts on life, which were interesting, but I was also waiting for more to happen throughout the book. Overall, though, this is a coming-of-age story that has a lot of life truths.

Livya Oliveira liiiiivya — An ok idea, combined way too much fantasy and science fiction though... Not the end of the story which was way more than annoying. (Turns out there are another two books to go with it.) I really only like a couple of the many storylines. Probably not worth how long it takes to read.

Sean Voisen svoisen — A big love letter to all the goofy stuff that makes comic books great, talking apes, cave men frozen in blocks of ice, cursed pirates, lost cities, fighting nazis etc that also manages to poke fun of some of the big serious event mania of recent comic years and tell a fun story. Azzarello gathers together some of DC's lesser known characters and sends them on a pretty trippy quest. It's a fun read with some really nice, clean art. Reads like a really good saturday morning cartoon on acid.

Ana Pb anapbabian8933 — I LOVE THIS BOOK. I'd have to say it is in there with my top favorites. Its a fantasy novel about a kid who searches through a parallel world where all stories ever told are held to find the root to his father's 'writer's block'. It deals with father/son relationships, independence, fighting against internal and societal censorship, etc. It is a great book that can be enjoyed by all ages. One I've read to children who enjoy being read 'chapter books'. It has many fascinating characters that children love and a lot of adventure. A must read.

Vu Thai vuqthai — Will Kymlicka's thoughtful response was the most worthwhile of the bunch. (Note: Okin was my professor's senior thesis advisor)

Sebastian De sebastiandedeyne — Hunter shifts the pattern of heroine in peril providing the major emotional kick here by also putting her hero in peril, and having the heroine save him (twice, no less!) The hero still gets to kill the man who terrorized the heroine as a child, though, so we're not talking major reenvisioning of the Hunter romance trope. I've been thinking about how different authors' works embody different ideas about how people fall in love/come to love one another. A really great author can shift ideology from book to book, but I find that most authors have one belief about this, and repeat the pattern over and over from book to book. For Hunter, the pattern is "I'm attracted to you sexually as soon as I meet you. The attraction, though, means more than just lust -- it means we are destined for one another." Usually I find this trope rather annoying, but Hunter is such a good writer than she can sucker me into it despite my ideological problems...

Victoria Borbola borbola — Great book. Easy to identify with the young male character who is an aspiring musician!
